$29 Kmart item that Aussies are obsessed with

Aussies are no strangers to getting creative when it comes to a cheap and cheerful Kmart item – and this bathroom find is no different.

'I'm shocked': Kmart selling $900 item for $199

Aussies are no strangers to getting creative when it comes to a cheap and cheerful Kmart item – turning laundry hampers into a bin station or transforming tea towels into kids’ clothes.

Now, people who love plants have thought of a brilliant second use for Kmart’s $29 Telescopic Shower Caddy.

One woman took to the popular Facebook group Crazy Indoor Plant People Australia to ask if anyone had used the bathroom item, which can stand between 210 and 310cm tall, as a plant stand.

“I just saw this from $29 tension pole from Kmart and wondered if anyone uses it for their plants,” the social media user asked.

“It looks similar to that pole thing from Urban Jungle that is $140.”

Social media users were quick to say they had also used it in this way, with one shopper saying they had done it for more than six months without issue, and sharing images of their plant collection.

“We have in our lounge! The shelves are not very big though so only small pots work,” one social media user said.

Another added: “I’ve been using mine for over 12 months now, we love it. Good for hanging plants, pot plants and plants that love to climb!”

“I have two! They’re still in my bathroom, so absolutely counts. I wouldn’t put super heavy plants on them, but for my little ones, they’re absolutely perfect,” another said.

A handful of shoppers admitted they prefer the $140 version better.

One said: “I’ve got both; the Kmart one in the shower for shower things … and the Urban Jungle one in the kitchen.

“For plants, one million per cent go the urban jungle one. It’s by far superior. It is stronger, the hooks are awesome and it looks much nicer.”

“I prefer the one from Urban jungle. Much better quality. It’s a false economy paying less for the Kmart product when it breaks so easily,” another said.
