The heartbreaking final words of a 12-year-old girl who took her own life have been revealed.
Ella Catley-Crawford was found on October 27 having felt like “she was the problem” after becoming the target of bullies at a prestigious Brisbane school.
She died a week later at Queensland Children’s Hospital.
“We are numb and broken, especially for our sister, Julie, who has lost her best friend, the love of her life, and her only child,” Ella’s family wrote on a fundraiser set up to support her mother.
“Ella was a bright and quirky 12-year-old who faced unimaginable challenges.”
It has now been revealed that the young girl has made a heartbreaking TikTok post just hours before she attempted to take her own life.
In the clip, she wrote the words “one day you’ll never see me again”.
Dozens of Ella’s friends responded to the post with love and concern, and encouraged her to reach out to them for help.
“Nooo I’m here for you Ella. Always here to talk,” one wrote.
Another said they were “sorry” to hear about what she was experiencing.
“I hope it all gets better,” she wrote, with Ella responding that the support means “a lot”.
After her death, another friend commented saying they regretted not speaking out about bullying before it was too late.
Ella had more than 500 followers on TikTok, with most of her posts featuring videos of the primary school girl lip-synching, dancing and taking selfies at school.
Her classmates paid tribute to the young girl, remembering her as always being “sweet and kind”.
One said that the pair had been best friends since they started in grade one together.
“I can remember her being so excited for this new school, she got a scholarship, she was showing me all her new uniforms, going to every single school introduction day,” she wrote.
“It’s so disappointing how it turned out. Ella deserved way more, those bullies were jealous of her beauty. I love you Ella, you will always have a place in my heart.”
Another friend described Ella’s death as “heartbreaking”.
“Me and Ella went to primary school together and this is heartbreaking that she left us too soon,” she wrote.
A member of Ella’s netball club said the team is “empty” without Ella.
“Rest easy gorgeous girl you didn’t deserve any of this, our school and our netball club is so empty without your bubbly and sweet personality. You will be forever loved and never forgotten,” she wrote.
Many of her friends have taken to TikTok, encouraging their followers to donate to the GoFundMe to support Ella’s family, with one friend adding a note calling for her peers to be “kind to everyone”.
Ella has allegedly being “catfished” by schoolmates “who preyed on her vulnerability”, according to her distraught family.
She had only started at the school this year after receiving an academic scholarship.
According to her family, she “became the victim of a cruel catfishing scheme” by the end of her first term.
“They shared her personal photos across social media, leading to bullying, isolation, and the start of a difficult mental health journey of trying to fit in.”
She later left the school where the alleged bullying took place.
“If you ask if we are angry – yes, we are. If you ask if we are sad – absolutely. And if you ask if the system let her down – it did.,” Ella’s family wrote on a GoFundMe page.
“This catastrophic reality has changed our family’s history forever.”
Andrew Johnson, the principal of Redlands College, where she was moved to after the alleged bullying at her previous school, expressed his condolences about Ella’s death in a message to Year 7 parents on Sunday, The Courier Mail reported.
Ella’s mother said netball was her daughter’s “happy place”, according to the Raiders Netball Club Redlands, as they played tribute to her.
“It is with deep sadness that our club shares the absolutely devastating news of the passing of one of our young Raiders players, Ella, who played in our U12s team,” they said on Facebook.
“Our love, thoughts and prayers are with Ella’s family and we are so deeply sorry for the loss of such a beautiful young girl.”
