Katie Holmes in Australia for first time in 10 years to raise vital funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities

Hollywood actress Katie Holmes has touched down in Australia to support McHappy Day, opting for one of her signature chic looks in Sydney.

If there is one thing Katie Holmes fans can’t seem to get enough of, it’s her incredibly chic style.

While she has spent years keeping herself and her daughter Suri out of the limelight, the Dawson’s Creek actress has recently catapulted into the style pages, namely because of her daring looks.

In September, she inadvertently started the trend for “cardibras” after she was spotted on the streets showing off her cashmere lingerie.

Designed by Khaite NY, the $520 bra sold out in just over one hour after the star was photographed in the knitted intimate garment.

Holmes, who is in Sydney ahead of McHappy Day today, had turned heads all over again, this time rocking her signature classic style on Friday during a visit to the Ronald McDonald House in Westmead, in Sydney’s west.

Stepping out in one of her favourite Aussie designers, Zimmerman, the mother-of-one opted for a soft pink suit jacket ($1110) and wide leg trousers ($550), pairing the look with a leopard-print shoulder bag.

“I feel Australia is very stylish and I have been a fan of Zimmerman for many years and Dion Lee and Ellery,” Holmes told news.com.au

“So I’m excited to be here and do some shopping and be influenced by the stylish women of Australia.”

Holmes, who touched down in Sydney on Thursday, is an ambassador for McHappy Day, the major annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

As someone who supports a string of charities herself, even having taken Suri to a Syrian refugee camp in Greece earlier this year, the actress said she jumped at the opportunity to be affiliated with such a notable cause.

Many of her fans flocked to her Instagram page after she posted a snap at the Ronald McDonald House, not only to comment on her chic style, but also to thank her for her charity support.

“Thank you for your support for RMHC. I work at the one in Las Vegas NV. I had to use the house in 2003 my son was 16 and broke his back. Almost 16 years later I’m still giving back. I would have been lost with out them,” one fan said.

“Wow! Thanks for being here. You are amazing!” said another.

Holmes told news.com.au she found Ronald McDonald charities “so incredibly moving”.

“I have had the chance to get to know some of the families at this location (Westmead) and hearing the stories they have generously shared,” she said.

“It’s such a difficult time in their lives, so it’s really amazing they have a place to live where they don’t have to worry about that stress and I feel very honoured to be here.”

Since its inception in 1991, McHappy Day has raised $46 million and Holmes feels confident they’re going to surpass the $5 million goal today, when she will surprise fans at the Haberfield McDonald’s restaurant in Sydney’s inner west.

“Every family I’ve met has said how much Ronald McDonald House has meant to them and how they couldn’t have got through this very difficult time without it,” she said.

“I love the people of Australia and everyone I have met has been so friendly every time I’ve come and I’m so excited to meet more people tomorrow (Saturday) and celebrate the generosity of spirit.”

When asked whether she’s a “Big Mac” fan, Holmes quickly responded to say she’s more of a “French Fries” girl.

“Everyone loves McDondalds … French Fries are always a hit,” she said.

DAWSON’S CREEK

If you’re hoping for a Dawson’s Creek reboot, Holmes didn’t confirm, nor deny the question when asked on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa show on Friday.

“I don’t know,” she told the radio hosts. “We had a reunion for a photoshoot about two years ago which was great fun and we all keep in touch,” she said.

“We get asked that so often which is so flattering because we had such a great time making the show and it meant a lot to us and obviously we still have so many fond memories.”

The 40-year-old, who was just 19 when she filmed the popular TV series, told news.com.au the crew still keep in touch.

“The last time we all got together we had a lovely time reminiscing about our experiences,” she said.

“It was a show that we had a great time making and we grew up together on it so it’s a very beautiful experience to have that.”

HOLMES’ DEEP CONNECTION WITH SURI

Since her split with Tom Cruise in 2012 and the remarkably quiet relationship with Jamie Foxx that followed, Holmes has been laying low, with Suri by her side.

Speaking to Stellar, she said she has a deep connection with her daughter.

Explaining that her own mum Kathleen has been pivotal in helping her bring up Suri, she said: “I have a really close relationship with my mum and a close relationship with my daughter.

“I have taken advice from my mum in raising my daughter. I appreciate the bond that all of us have, and I appreciate more and more my own mother and the challenges she faced now that I’m a mum.”

Holmes welcomed daughter Suri with ex-husband Tom Cruise when she was 27 years old.

In fact, 10 years ago — the last time Holmes was in Australia, to shoot a film — Holmes’ family life was all anybody seemed interested in.

Holmes married Cruise, 57, in November 2006, seven months after Suri’s birth.

She filed for divorce in June 2012 after five years of marriage.

Since the split with Cruise, the Dawson’s Creek actress has been raising Suri alone.

“I was happy to become a mum in my twenties,” Holmes, now 40, shared in the December issue of Elle UK.

“It’s been nice that our ages fit … how do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together.”

Now, months after splitting with Jamie Foxx after a notoriously hush-hush six-year romance, it’s Holmes making headlines for her fashion choices, which have earned her the title of trendsetter.

For those wondering what’s next for the actress, she will star in two movies — The Boy 2, an American horror film and The Secret, based on the best-selling self-help book by Rhonda Byrne.

Both films will be released in January and April, 2020, respectively.
