Youtube star Alan Tsibulya shows Aussies how cliche they really are

ACAI bowls, Westfield and downward facing dogs, Australia you have officially become a cliche.

SMART observational humour anchored in truths is the cornerstone of Australian comedy and culture.

If you look at Kath and Kim, Middle Upper Bogan or Utopia you see the intelligence, wit and key observational skills of the writers.

Alan Tsibulya is no different. He may only be 19 but his keen eye puts him well beyond his peers.

He started creating videos, mainly on YouTube in 2014 when he started university to not “go crazy in the middle of it”. His videos are now just as popular on Facebook and he has attracted a global fan base.

His video The Rich Kids of Sydney is his most popular one to date, with its popularity based on the observational truths he writes and performs.

“When I am on a bus or cab or walking, I am someone else, I’m not about judgment at all, it’s all about observing,” Alan said.

Other videos include Shopping in Sydney, Eastern Suburbs Problems and Sydney Social Survival Guide. In his video he imitates all the stereotypes you find in different sections of Sydney. From the kale loving, yoga doing overly manicured Eastern suburbs girl to the Uber addicted, chick ‘magnet’ plaid wearing guys. His newest video was a collaboration with news.com.au and addresses young voters for the upcoming election, in Alan style. He believes in the need to teach Australian politics in High School to help younger Australians make an educated choice.

Alan is also a classically trained pianist and is studying a double degree in commerce and arts, as well as creating his viral videos.

He said the ability to create the videos and have them resonate with audiences was due to his ability to observe what most people look past.

He is the first to admit he fits into many of the personalities he portrays in his videos, and has no shortage of material.

“We live in Sydney, we are so lucky and there are so many types of people and so many have first world problems,” he said.

Having attended public, catholic and private schools, Alan said having been witness to so many varied personalities and lifestyles had allowed him to see beyond a particular group.

This led him to create a common message in his videos — looking beyond your circles.

“Life isn’t all about Westfield centres and Acai bowls, there are so many other aspects in life you can focus on.”
