After nearly two days’ stuck in mud near a dam, a 95-year-old Gympie man has been rescued by a friend.

Tom Killen became stuck on his Carters Ridge property at around midday on Sunday, with no way to call for help.

Mr Killen was stuck in sludge for nearly two days, unable to free himself, before finally being pulled from the mud by his friend Dave Grey early on Tuesday morning.

Paramedics arrived at the scene just after 7am on Tuesday, where they discovered the elderly man on the ground.

Queensland Ambulance Service Operations Supervisor Shaun Bright said it was lucky the man was not left there any longer.

“He’s a very tough gentleman,” Mr Bright said.

“When we got there, the gentleman was suffering from suspected hypothermia and severe dehydration,” he told ABC news.

Mr Grey revealed he found Mr Killen with his head and shoulders out of the ground, metres from his bogged tractor

“When he didn’t ring, I tried ringing him and I thought I would come and check him out,” Mr Grey said.

“(He is) probably one of the toughest people I’ve seen at that age and even ambos and police were commenting on how resilient he is; a tough old bloke.”

Mr Killen was treated for hypothermia, dehydration and scrapes at the scene.

Emergency crews were stunned a man aged in his 90s could have survived such an ordeal.

He is currently in a serious condition at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
