Family Court gives seven-year-old boy ‘approval’ to adopt teddies in heartwarming letter exchange
The Family Court’s ‘above and beyond’ response to the seven-year-old’s adorable request has brought tears to eyes and ‘renewed faith in humanity’.
A seven-year-old boy has been granted approval by the Family Court in Western Australia to adopt several teddies.
After writing a heartfelt letter to the court, the young boy received an equally adorable response, complete with reference to the fictitious International Teddy Act of 1908.
“In the matter of Mr Denham, Baby Denham, Brown Bear, Bamboo, Special Teddy Jnr and Tiny,” the mocked up court order reads.
“Before a Teddy in chambers.
“Application having been made under the International Teddy Act 1908 for an adoption order in relation to a hug of teddies known as Mr Denham, Baby Denham, Brown Bear, Bamboo, Special Teddy Jnr and Tiny who reside in ... Western Australia.
“It is ordered that ... (they) be adopted by (the boy) to be treated lovingly as child and teddies.”
An image of the letter from the court was posted on social media by psychologist and academic Stephen Bright.
“Not sure how many similar requests they get, but this seemed to go above and beyond. Thank you,” he wrote.
His post attracted many responses, including one person who wrote: “That is absolutely adorable, your nephew must be so happy! Such a beautiful, yet simple gesture, definitely put a smile on my face and a tear to the eye.”
Another person commented: “That’s so awesome. Gives you renewed faith in humanity.”
