A Coles shopper was almost brought to tears after she witnessed a “beautiful” act of kindness from a young cashier.

The Aussie woman, who goes by the name of Lyn, took to Facebook to reveal how an elderly customer had become confused when she went to pay for her goods at the supermarket’s store in Port Stephens, in New South Wales.

The elderly woman’s card was declined twice and that’s when the cashier reassured the customer he would “fix” the problem.

He reached into his pocket, grabbed his phone and used it to pay for the woman’s $73 worth of groceries.

Lyn, who witnessed the young man’s generous act said she was blown away by his “absolute care”, adding she just had to share what had happened.

“While waiting in line at my local Coles supermarket, the elderly lady in front of me was having trouble paying with her debit card,” Lyn wrote on Coles’ official Facebook page on Wednesday.

“It declined twice and she was confused at why it wasn’t working. A beautiful young boy working on the check out told her it’s OK, ‘I’ll fix it for you’, and proceeded to pay for it using his own phone to access his account.”

Lyn said the elderly woman just thought he had fixed the technology some how, not realising he had just paid for her shopping.

“He didn’t look for thanks or acknowledgment in any way. I wanted to cry at witnessing the absolute care and generosity of a fabulous young man called Michael.”

Lyn said she made sure to tell the store’s supervisor of the cashier’s sweet act.

“(I) assured him good things are coming his way in life. It warmed my cold heart.”

Lyn’s post has received hundreds of comments from people also blown away by the young man’s generosity.

“What a beautiful young man. His parents should be so proud,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Nice pay it forward story, well done Michael,” said another, while a Coles worker added:

“Reading through this I was thinking it was Michael, then saw his name. He is a lovely young man and he is an asset to our store. I will be giving him a praise up!”
