Fake ‘heiress’ Anna Sorokin has courtroom meltdown over outfit

Anna Sorokin made headlines for her prison makeover — but just a day later, her tight black dress and choker were nowhere to be seen.

The fake “heiress” on trial for scamming businesses and friends so she could live the high life had a meltdown on Friday, reportedly refusing to enter the courtroom over a fashion confusion with her stylist-curated ensemble.

Sorokin initially declined to enter court in her tan prison-issued sweatsuit and then refused to wear a civilian outfit provided by authorities.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Diane Kiesel sent Sorokin’s defence lawyer into the holding cell to talk her into appearing, but he returned stating she was weeping and complaining of nausea, the New York Post reports.

After a lengthy back and forth, she finally emerged for her grand larceny trial in a wrinkled white shirt and budget black slacks, courtesy of the Department of Correction.

“Again, with all due respect to your client, she seems a bit inordinately concerned about her clothing,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Diane Kiesel told defendant Anna Sorokin’s defence lawyer, Todd Spodek.

“This is a trial. She is a defendant in a criminal case. I am sorry if her clothing is not up to her standards, but she’s got to be here.”

Sorokin told her lawyer she believed vindictive staffers at Rikers Island jail were sabotaging her designer ensembles “to interfere with her being able to wear the clothes”.

“The clothes that are there, they are all dirty,” Spodek said. “There are logistics issues with the clothes getting to Rikers.”

When court finally reconvened, assistant district attorney Catherine McCaw expressed concern that Sorokin was pretending to be ill.

“It (initially) appeared that her issue was that she was displeased with her apparel. Now she is saying that she is sick,” she told the judge.

“There is a legitimate concern that she may be malingering because she’s not happy with the clothing that she has been offered.”

Her sabotage claims came a day after it was revealed Sorokin had a stylist hand-pick her courtroom attire, which has included an Yves Saint Laurent blouse, Victoria Beckham slacks and a Miu Miu cocktail dress.

The day before, she’d appeared in a runway-worthy outfit selected by her stylist Anastasia Walker, who has dressed stars such as Madonna and Kanye West.

The Russian-born woman is on trial accused of stealing about $385,000 through multiple scams between November 2016 and August 2017 where she posed as faux German heiress Anna Delvey to infiltrate New York’s social scene.

It’s alleged the 28-year-old, who went by the name of Anna Delvey, was just “trying to make it” in the Big Apple but did so by conning friends, banks and hotels out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Among the many scams alleged was one worth $31 million, a loan Sorokin wanted to start a Manhattan club that would cater to New York’s wealthy elite.

The alleged scams have earned her a Netflix series based on her life that is being produced by Shonda Rhimes.
