A pub employee has been sacked after filming shocking CCTV footage of the moment a woman gave birth at a popular pub in Cairns.

The footage, which was captured on a phone and later shared on social media, depicts the pregnant mother walking towards a corner of the Raintrees Tavern and partially undressing. A split second later, the tiny baby can be seen hitting the ground.

A security guard rushed to pick up the baby and held the infant in his arms before walking out of the frame, while the mother appeared to look at her mobile phone screen.

The video has been widely circulated on social media in Cairns, leaving many people shocked and concerned for the welfare of both the mother and her newborn baby.

The Cairns Security firm, Diamondsec VIP Protection and Training Academy, which is understood to provide security to Raintrees Tavern, has been contacted for comment.

In response to the incident, the parent company of Raintrees Tavern, ALH Hotels, issued a statement to the Cairns Post.

“We take privacy very seriously, and have strict policies in place to protect both our staff and patrons. It is deeply regretful that CCTV footage was accessed and shared in this manner, which is clearly unacceptable and goes against company policy,” ALH Hotels said.

The company further stated that they have taken appropriate disciplinary action against the employee who filmed and shared the footage on social media and are taking steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

According to reports, the unexpected delivery of the baby took place on January 26, and Queensland Ambulance medics were called to the Pease St venue shortly thereafter.

Raintrees Tavern staff immediately provided support to the new mother and her baby after the birth. The employee who filmed and shared the footage was terminated from their employment on Thursday.

The wellbeing of the mother and child is still unknown.
