Anthony Bell: AVO taken out against celebrity Sydney to Hobart skipper by wife Kelly Landry
ANTHONY Bell has been banned from being around his glamorous TV presenter wife Kelly Landry while on booze or drugs, in a shock court order.
SYDNEY to Hobart skipper Anthony Bell says he will fight allegations he pushed his TV presenter wife Kelly Landry after police took out an interim apprehended violence order against the high-profile accountant.
The statement, contained in a letter to clients, came just hours after reports emerged of the order against Bell, who is due to face Waverley Local Court on Thursday.
According to the interim AVO, Bell must not be in the company of his former Getaway presenter wife for at least 12 hours after drinking alcohol or taking illicit drugs.
The Daily Telegraph last night obtained the letter written to his major clients “with an extremely heavy heart”.
“By now you may have seen a most distressing piece of news about my family involving some allegations my wife has made about me,” he said.
“There is an allegation I pushed her in November. I did not push her. There is an allegation I spoke loudly and embarrassed her in front of friends. It did not happen. I deny the allegations and will defend myself in court.”
Bell, of accountancy firm Bell Partners, won the famous 2016 yacht race in record time with his supermaxi Perpetual Loyal on December 28.
Landry was photographed embracing Bell on his arrival in Hobart.
Apart from the stipulations on drinking or drugs, the interim AVO forbids Bell from intentionally or recklessly destroying or damaging property that belongs to Landry.
“I abhor all violence and I am faithful to my family. It is unimaginable to me that I could ever touch a woman in anger,” Bell said.
“I have never taken a drug, been in any way disrespectful to people. I lead a quiet family life and try to be the best parent and husband that circumstances permit.
“While this is a private matter that Kelly and I are committed to resolving, I feel that I should note my distress over what has happened publicly.
“However, the emotional, physical and mental wellbeing of my wife and daughters is all I care about.”
Bell’s lawyer Chris Murphy said: “I expect the matter has no future. This is the most trivial application I have ever seen for an AVO. I would be surprised if it ever ends up as a court case.”
The pair was set up on a blind date by mutual friend Natalie Gruzlewski, who, like Landry, was a presenter on Getaway.
Kelly, 35, has the rare genetic heart disease left ventricular non-compaction, which was diagnosed while she was carrying their firstborn, Charlize.
The pair have two children together.
