Queensland mum scores $150k with Christmas Scratch-it win

A young mother will walk away $150,000 richer after a surprise win on Christmas Eve.

A young mother has begun the new year $150,000 richer after a surprise last-minute Christmas lottery win.

The woman, from Bundaberg, had purchased Scratch-it tickets for her whole family over the holiday period.

But, once peeling back the prize-winning markers, the woman was surprised to learn it she was the winner.

“It’s kind of crazy. I bought a few of these tickets as gifts for my family and I also bought myself one,” she said.

“Then, on Christmas Eve, we scratched them. At first, I was counting the words and thought I’d won a smaller prize.

“But then we kept checking the ticket and would find an extra word. Then I was like, ‘no way. That’s the top prize’”.

The woman told The Lott that while her family did not win anything themselves, they were still happy for her.

“It’s quite a boost going into the new year,” she said.

“I’ll be debt free and the rest of the prize I’ll use for savings until I get a better idea of how best to use it.”

The woman’s winning $10 Jumbo Crosswords Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Lucky Dollar Newsagency.
Last month, three people walked away from the massive $90m Oz Lotto draw with a share of the prize money.

The winning trio included a Sutherland Shire dad, a Campbelltown man and another winner who in December weren’t aware.

In October, a northern Sydney man who scored $30m revealed he plan to retire early after becoming the sole winner.

“I had plans to continue to travel for work but this prize has changed everything for me,” he told The Lott in October.

“I’m so happy to be back home in Australia. I honestly think I might just stay here and retire.”
