Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new website crashes
Following the bombshell news the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have quit as senior royals, their new website has buckled under the pressure.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made their first business move as non-senior royals — launching a website that has already crashed.
Following the extraordinary news the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided to “step down” from royal duties, they launched sussexroyal.com — a website dedicated to the their “progressive new roles”.
But as fans desperately try to get more information on what this unprecedented new chapter for the pair looks like, the site has buckled under the pressure.
The new website details a “revised media approach” that said the Duke and Duchess would grant access to young journalists and “credible media outlets focused on objective news reporting to cover key moments and events” — rejecting the traditional way the royals have managed media.
Instead they are adopting a “Royal Rota” system that gives a “pool” of select journalists access to Harry and Meghan’s work.
“British media representatives the opportunity to exclusively cover an event, on the understanding that they will share factual material obtained with other members of their sector who request it,” the site reads.
Meghan has notoriously had a bad time with the press since her relationship with Harry was first revealed, leading Harry to blast the “relentless campaign” against his wife in October last year.
They also state they will continue to run their Instagram account, which currently has 10.1 million followers and is where they earlier revealed their stunning decision.
Under the “Funding” section, the Sussexes declared their royal income, saying 5% came from the Sovereign Grant and the rest was a provision from the Duchy of Cornwall, which is managed by Prince Charles.
“As they step back as senior members of the Royal Family and no longer receive funding through the Sovereign Grant, they will become members of the Royal Family with financial independence which is something they look forward to,” the site reads.
Other sections explain how the pair plan to support community, serve the monarchy and strengthen the commonwealth.
There has been a huge reaction to the Sussexes new website, some loving it — and others calling it out as a snub against the royals.

Having read Harry & Meghan's new website, the summary is that "financially independent" means:
— dan barker (@danbarker) January 8, 2020
1. They will stop taking the 5% of their income from The Queen.
2. They will keep the 95% from Charles.
3. In giving up the 5%, they want to be able to work commercially.

I love Prince #Harry and Duchess #Meghan's new #SussexRoyal website! It's sleek, fresh, informative (check out the Funding and Media sections), and very much in keeping with their style. The shade it throws at the British media is a bonus.https://t.co/sN7pGiK0gR

This is not Harry and Meghan wanting to step back from public life to live a private life with their baby. The new âupdated rolesâ on their website imply a busy life in the limelight publishing and sharing their own content for financial gain. #HarryandMeghan
