“People can be bitchy — sometimes it’s totally Gossip Girl — but I don’t really care about it. That’s more their problem than mine,” she said. “The bullies won’t win.”

Sophie talks of her desire to become an actor and how she’d like to row for Australia at the Paralympics and if her willpower is anything to go by, we’re sure she’ll get there.

“Sophie lives life to the fullest, more than most able-bodied people, and that’s one of the things I find amazing,” said her father Ron, 61.

It’s a heartwarming sign that someone who has been through so much can have such a positive outlook on life.

It is 12 years since Sophie suffered third-degree burns to 85 per cent of her body after a car slammed into her Sydney childcare centre, only to be struck again in 2006 at a pedestrian crossing.
