Brit teen dies after collapsing during 16-hour party at Spanish club in 47 degree heat
A BRITISH teen has collapsed during a 16-hour party at a Spanish club while celebrating the end of school with his mates.
A TEENAGER celebrating the end of his A-level exams tragically died after collapsing at a 16-hour Spanish rave in searing 47C heat.
The Sun reports that Alex Masterton, 19, was found unresponsive at the Elrow club event near Barcelona.
Paramedics tried to save him but he died in hospital on Saturday.
Alex, from Grimsby, in the UK, collapsed on the last night of a week-long holiday to seaside town Salou with a group of pals.
The rave was described as “surreal madness” by organisers promoting the one-day festival.
He was due to start studying Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle University in September.
Friends paid tribute to Alex on social media after organising a gathering to remember him.
One wrote: “The huge effect you’ve had on so many people in such a little town really shows how you’ll forever be remembered! Sleep tight brother.”
Another friend said: “Never met a more genuine and down to earth guy, gone far to early. Really makes you think about how fragile life is.”
A friend also tweeted: “After the worst weekend of my life it fills my broken heart with joy that everyone has shown such great support for such an amazing person.”
Paying tribute to him, the former King Edward Grammar School student’s headteacher James Lascelles said: “All of the staff and pupils at King Edward who knew and taught Alex were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of his passing at such a young age.
“Alex has been at King Edward’s since Year 7 and had just completed his final exams with us in Year 13 in preparation for a degree in Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle University.
“During his time with us Alex had grown and matured into a lovely lad with real personality.
“The Sixth Form Team and his teachers were fond of his positivity, warm smile and his sharp sense of humour.
“His loss will be deeply felt by those who taught him and among his friendship groups at King Edward’s.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents, family and friends and our pastoral team at King Edward’s, supported by the team at St James’ Church, stand ready to provide all and any assistance to his family and friends at this dreadful time.”
A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said Alex’s family has been informed.
The Elrow club’s 7th anniversary event ran for 16 hours — from 10am through to 2am the following morning.
It included three music stages, art installations, food experiences, market stalls and immersive decoration.
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: “Our staff are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Barcelona.
“They have offered advice on bereavement abroad and repatriation.”
