A Sydney high school teacher has been has been charged with multiple child sexual offences.

Music and drama teacher Tyson Moon from Plumpton High School, in Sydney’s West, was charged with three counts of sexually touching a person in special care.

Police had been investigating the 26-year-old since November 1 after receiving reports of alleged misconduct.

Mr Moon is no longer working at the school while the matter is before the courts.

Parents were informed a staff member had been charged in a letter written sent out by Plumpton High School principal Tim Lloyd on Thursday.

“Pending the outcome of those charges, that person has been assigned to a non-school work location by the NSW Department of Education,” Mr Lloyd wrote.

“With this matter is now before the courts (sic), the school is unable to comment on anything that may be associated with it.

“As soon as this matter was brought to its attention, the school followed all related departmental policies and procedures, including support for students.”

Mr Lloyd said counselling was available for students and provided information on further support services, including Kids Helpline.

A NSW Department of Education spokesperson said the department “does not tolerate employees engaging in misconduct, especially towards students”.

“The care and protection of students are the department’s highest priorities,” the spokesperson told news.com.au in a statement.

“The matter has been referred to the department’s Professional and Ethical Standards Directorate. PES trained child protection investigators will work closely with NSW Police to ensure the safety and welfare of students.  

“The employee is not currently working in schools and will be unable to do so for the duration of any police or criminal matter.

“Given this is a police matter, it would be inappropriate for the department to comment further.”

Mr Moon joined Plumpton High School’s creative and performing arts faculty in 2021.

“Prior to training to become a teacher, Mr Moon worked in several professional musical theatre productions,” the school’s 2022 Gifted and Talented Program information booklet reads.

“Mr Moons (sic) professional experience in the theatre industry has assisted in the mentoring and guidance of his students to assist in their own success in performing arts subjects whilst experiencing a glimpse of what the professional theatre industry is like throughout his Drama lessons in the classroom.”

The 26-year-old has also been involved in Sydney theatre group Fantasia Showstoppers and recently directed a production called Dot and the Kangaroo Jr, the Herald Sun reports.

Mr Moon has been granted conditional bail and will face court in Mt Druitt on December 16.
