Maths teacher charged with raping 16-year-old student, dad accused of knowing about the relationship
A teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a teen student. In a bizarre twist, the student’s dad has also been charged.
A maths teacher in the US has been arrested and accused of raping a 16-year-old high school student — and, in a bizarre twist, the student’s dad has also been charged.
Hailey Nichelle Clifton-Carmack, 26, from Waynesville, near St. Louis in Missouri, was charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree statutory rape, sexual contact with a student and fourth-degree child molestation.
According to local media, the pupil’s dad Mark Creighton has been charged over allowing his son to have sex with Clifton-Carmack.
Court documents state that the teen and teacher had sex during school and used other students as “lookouts”.
According to court records, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by the school’s resource officer who reported the relationship to the police.
A student then came forward with pictures of his classmate with scratches on his back.
The teen said the scratches were from Clifton-Carmack after having sex with the teacher in the classmate’s driveway.
Clifton-Carmack has two young daughters of her own and was recently divorced having been married to Chance Carmack — an amateur mixed martial arts fighter.
Detectives paid a visit to the school in Missouri’s Pulaski County on December 8 to speak with the teacher. They took her phone and later found text messages that related to the alleged relationship with the 16-year-old boy.
The student who reported the relationship said the teacher was “too friendly with students and sometimes will dress inappropriately at school.”
According to court documents, Clifton-Carmack would often wear “tight or low-cut shirts” and would often be reprimanded by the school’s administration for being “too close with students.”
Clifton-Carmack was arrested on Friday after fleeing Missouri for Texas.
According to the documents seen by local media, a witness came to the father to tell him about the alleged sexual abuse between his son and the teacher — and when they arrived at the Creighton’s home, he was on the phone with Clifton-Carmack.
When the witness told Creighton they were going to come forward with the information he responded by telling them “they are going to do it behind my back so I may as well let it happen.”
He also reportedly told a witness he would lie for his son if he had to.
Court documents say the father admitted to knowing of the relationship to a detective.
The detective said in court documents the father “knew of the relationship of his minor child and the 26-year-old teacher and instead of reporting the information, he continued to cover for them and allowed the relationship to continue.”
Creighton was arrested in Missouri and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He has been told to have no contact with Clifton-Carmack.
In a statement to KSAT, the school’s District Superintendent Kent Stoumbaugh said Clifton-Carmack had “not been in the district” since December 8.
“We have been made aware of criminal charges being filed against an employee for alleged misconduct,” he said. “We understand that charges are not the same as a conviction and the employee is to be considered innocent until proven guilty.
“We must stress, however, that the alleged misconduct is inexcusable and does not meet the professional standards for district employees.”
