A Sydney father has been charged after allegedly stabbing another dad while the pair waited for their kids to finish school.

The two men, aged 35 and 41, were waiting for their children to finish school at the St Clair Shopping Centre carpark in western Sydney when they got into a fight about 2.50pm on Monday, police say.

NSW Police said a verbal altercation between the pair quickly escalated to a physical confrontation where it’s alleged the 41-year-old produced a knife and stabbed the younger man a number of times in the back and arm.

Police said a large crowd gathered at the scene in the shopping centre carpark before the older man left.

The injured man attended Nepean Hospital for treatment to three stab wounds. His injuries were not life threatening.

The older man later presented at Blacktown Hospital for treatment for injuries to his face and was arrested by detectives.

He was taken to Penrith police station after he was discharged, where he was charged with malicious wounding causing grievous bodily harm and affray.

He was refused bail to face Blacktown Local Court.

Detectives would like to speak to anyone who witnessed or may have footage of the incident, and have appealed for people to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
