Pregnant influencer breaks down over advice for unborn baby
An Aussie influencer has shared a tearful video revealing the moment her doctor advised her to abort her unborn child and why she wouldn’t.
Australian influencer Sarah Stevenson has shared a tearful video, opening up about the moment her doctor advised her to abort her unborn child.
Last month, the social media star, who goes by the handle Sarah’s Day, revealed to her 1.2 million Instagram followers she was expecting her second child with boyfriend and photographer Kurt Tilse.
However, in the candid YouTube clip posted last week, Sarah explained that because her unborn son has a “health condition” her doctor advised her to “stop and start again”.
While Sarah said she was hesitant to open up about her pregnancy, she and Kurt agreed it was best for their family and mental health.
In the video, Sarah began by explaining that she felt a lot more confident with her second pregnancy, adding everything “felt right”.
However, she became emotional on camera as she spoke about a call she received from her ultra sound clinic.
It was following her NIPT scan and blood examination, which test for abnormalities in unborn babies.
“Basically during the call, she disclosed to us that our baby has some, I guess, unforeseen health issues or a health issue that you wouldn’t expect your baby to have,” Sarah said, as she fought back tears.
“It has nothing to do with Kurt or I, it’s just sometimes luck of the draw.
“They said look, it’s basically a 99 per cent chance this is correct, but we encourage you to get further testing to make sure and we can find out a little bit more about your baby.”
She then underwent a CVS procedure, a Chorionic villus sampling, adding she felt fine about it.
However, Sarah said the hardest part was when she met with the doctor who performed the CVS two weeks later to discuss the results.
“I was going in so positive, regardless of the outcome … it was God’s plan,” she said.
But the doctor’s comments left her stunned.
“He said, ‘Look my recommendation to you is definitely stop and start again’ and I was like ‘What do you mean’ and he kind of said, ‘For your own wellbeing and for the wellbeing of your child, I think you should terminate.’”
Sarah broke down in tears as she relayed the doctor’s comments, saying it stayed in her head for the next few days as she agonised over her decision.
“I kept thinking should I terminate this baby, am I being selfish if I am bringing a baby into this world who’s going to hate his circumstances. It was just the most pressure I ever had on myself,” Sarah explained.
However, the health vlogger said nothing in her heart and body felt right to terminate her unborn baby.
Sarah, who is now 20 weeks pregnant, said she is at peace with her unborn baby’s condition and that her son was “designed” for the couple.
She also explained she had a zoom call with paediatricians, counsellors and practitioners who specialise in the couple’s unborn baby’s health condition, which helped point her in the right direction.
“It was really positive and really encouraging and (they) pointed me in the right direction to establish our baby’s team of health professionals that we may need in the future or may not need to see at all, because he could be super mild,” Sarah said.
The couple didn’t want to disclose the health condition as they didn’t want it to define their unborn son.
On Tuesday, Sarah shared photos from her 20-week scan in an Instagram post, telling followers she was able to bond even more “with our beautiful boy”.
“I came home and showed the pictures to (the couple’s son) Fox and he was kissing them and asking if that was his brother,” she wrote in the post.
“Baby boy you’re going to fit in perfectly into our loving family. We all can’t wait to kiss your gorgeous cheeks, bub.”
