Gold Coast fitness guru Emily Skye expecting her second child
The Gold Coast fitness entrepreneur, who has a social media following of more than 10 million, has revealed she is expecting her second child.
Australian fitness guru Emily Skye has revealed she is pregnant.
The Gold Coast personal trainer, who is known for her successful online fitness program Emily Skye Fit, told news.com.au that she and her hubby Declan Redmond are expecting their second child after trying to fall pregnant for a year.
She said when the results returned positive they got a “wonderful surprise”.
“When you’re trying to have a baby you’re obsessing and you’re thinking you’re pregnant every month, so it was definitely a surprise because I just thought, ‘Nah, it’s never going to happen’, so it was a wonderful surprise,” the 34-year-old said.
The pair, who celebrated their daughter Mia’s second birthday last month, said they were looking forward to welcoming their second child around July.
But while the popular fitness star is thrilled with the news, she also admitted she’s feeling a “little nervous”.
“I know what I am in for,” she said laughing.
“My last pregnancy I obviously gained a fair bit of weight (27kg). A lot of that was muscle loss, fat, fluids, baby weight – the whole lot. And I was in a lot of pain with my back.”
Emily suffered from ab separation and also sciatica – a pain in the buttock and leg caused by pressure on nerves in the lower back.
“It was hell so I am dreading that,” she said.
“I am really trying to keep my posture as good as I can and the training I am doing is based on that,” she explained.
“I am working on keeping my core and back strong because even my upper back got really bad when I was breastfeeding and carrying Mia around.”
Her core workouts involve planks and mountain climbers.
“I still do dead lifts, squats and lunges, but as soon as I feel like I can’t, I’ll just adjust it,” she said, adding “you have to be conscious of how you are feeling and not push yourself”.
Emily, who boasts a multimillion-dollar fitness enterprise, having made her AFR Young Rich List debut in October 2017, is known for having a strong connection with her 12 million social media followers.
She has built a loyal following through her honest, raw and “real” content, something the 34-year-old prides herself on.
And she will continue to do so, documenting the lows as well as the highs throughout her second pregnancy.
“When I was pregnant with Mia I personally didn’t see much ‘real’ stuff out there. It was all very glamorised. Everyone looked amazing, enjoying pregnancy and bouncing back, and I am sure people out there did talk abut it, I just didn’t see it,” Emily said.
”It wasn’t spoken about enough, so I thought I was in a good position to be honest and show all the ups and downs – but obviously still show I am really grateful to be able to have babies.

“However, it’s not sunshine, rainbows and lollipops. It’s hard work and you feel sick.”
When Emily was pregnant with Mia she said everything was a battle – from getting out of bed to walking, but she labelled the worst as the changes to her core and the ab separation. She had to get the all-clear from doctors before training again.
Known for her super shredded and strong physique, she never shied away from revealing the realties of pregnancy - and regularly shared honest updates with her fans.

‘I CAN’T EAT HEALTHY FOODS’
Emily, who has just hit the three-month mark in her pregnancy, said she was completely turned off meat and anything healthy such as salads.
So now she has a vegetarian-based diet.
She is trying not to go “crazy” after having overindulged a little too much when she was pregnant with Mia in 2017.
“Last time I’d easily eat four burgers with chips, then I would have 10 doughnuts and I am not even exaggerating. And then I would have ice cream with cookie pieces broken on top with melted chocolate.
“It’s too early to tell if that is going to happen, but I am really trying not to overdo it. I also don’t have that crazy hunger feeling I had last time, so I am hoping it stays like that.”
The moment she found out she was pregnant was around the same time she discovered what was causing her ongoing bloating battles – something she was also very open about with her fans.
In an Instagram post in November, the fitness blogger revealed doctors had discovered several parasites lurking in her stomach and diagnosed her with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
TRAINING
When it comes to training, Emily will be taking the same approach to her previous pregnancy by listening to her body.
“Last pregnancy I planned on being able to keep up with my fitness, and I wasn’t able to do that the whole way through,” she said.
“You can’t beat yourself up over it; everyone is different. Some people can continue training like an athlete and others can’t at all, so you can’t compare yourself.”
Emily, who is currently travelling and filming workout content for her revamped fitness program, is training roughly three times a week.

“Because I travel a lot I have to do little hotel room workouts. I choose about four or five different exercises and then I do them back-to-back without any or very little rest,” she said.
“You want keep your heart rate up and you want to make sure you are challenging yourself. If you can have a conversation, then you’re not working hard enough.
“People always ask me how many hours I train a day and I say three a week – you have just got to be efficient with your workouts and make sure they’re effective.”
Emily advised those looking to reset their fitness goals in the new year to be patient and understand results take time.
“A lot of people want results straight away. I mean I do too, but it’s not realistic, so you have to make sure you know it’s going to take time,” she explained.
“The more uncomfortable you get the more results you’re going to get especially at the start because that’s when it’s the hardest.
“When you start to see results, you have more energy which motivates you to keep going.”
