‘Stop!’: Jessica Simpson criticised for 11-year-old daughter’s outfit
A famous mum has copped a barrage of criticism for allowing her eldest child wear a skimpy top during a day out together.
A celebrity mother is copping a wave of criticism for allowing her 11-year-old daughter to wear a crop top.
Jessica Simpson told fans she took her eldest child Maxwell to work with her recently, sharing a series of snaps from their day together.
In the photos, the singer wore a pink mini dress as she posed beside her tween, who was dressed in a long denim maxi skirt with a matching corset-style cropped shirt.
“Bring your Barbie to work day,” Simpson, 43, captioned the images which were shared to Instagram Sunday.
While many fans praised the “adorable” mother-daughter photos, others lashed the mum-of-three for allowing Maxwell to show off her midriff.
“Isn’t she like 11 or something? Stop sexualising your little girl,” one person raged in the comments section.
“Who lets their 11-year-old child out of the house dressed like that??” someone else questioned.
As one furious follower declared: “After years of denouncing how she was oversexualised as a young adult and the scrutiny she faced, she’s now making sure her daughter will have the same experience, instead of protecting her from it. Shameful and incredibly sad. Poor Maxwell.”
“Why in the hell would you let your child dress like that is beyond me!!!” one user exclaimed.
“Not a good look for an 11-year-old child!” another concerned person declared.
Many defended Simpson’s parenting and complimented Maxwell’s fashion choice, describing those who had issues with the outfit “part of the problem”.
“So many Karens here geez! No 11-year-old looks like an 11-year-old today. We’re not in the Brady Bunch years anymore, she looks fine. She’s with her mumma,” one stated.
“Sooo cute! PS, if you sexualise an 11-year-old for what she is wearing, you are part of the problem,” another agreed.
Simpson shares Maxwell with husband Eric Johnson. She and the 43-year-old NFL star also share son Ace Knute, 10, and daughter Birdie Mae, 4.
She’s not the first famous mum to be “shamed” for their parenting decisions, with Coco Austin, who is married to American rapper Ice-T, copping flak for wearing a G-string bikini to the pool with her six-year-old daughter in June last year.
The 43-year-old was accused of dressing “inappropriately” while on holiday in the Bahamas with her husband and their daughter Chanel after sharing a series of poolside snaps taken at a water park.
In the images, the mum and daughter duo rocked matching pink and blue bikinis, with one major difference.
While little Chanel’s cossie had regular bottoms, Austin’s featured a skimpy G-string design that flaunted her butt.
Eagle-eyed social media users were quick to spot there were other children in the vicinity, prompting many to label her revealing bikini bottoms “inappropriate”.
