Snezana Wood shares ‘crazy’ motherhood photo to silence parenting shamers

Reality TV star Snezana Wood has shared a relatable motherhood moment with fans — and people are loving it for being so real.

Majority of women feel 'judged' over breastfeeding choice: survey

Reality television star Snezana Wood has taken a stand against parent shamers by sharing an intimate snap of herself breastfeeding her daughter.

Snez, who met personal trainer Sam Wood on the 2015 season of The Bachelor, is a mum to Eve, 14, Willow, two, and Charlie, seven months.

The social media star recently took to Instagram to share a throwback snap of herself breastfeeding Willow – and to share an important message.

“It’s crazy when I look back at these beautiful photos of my children and remember that they all received some type of criticism from others for my parenting choices,” she captioned the post, shared with her 312,000 followers.

“Whether it was ‘she’s too old for a dummy’, ‘you shouldn’t let your baby fall asleep on you’, or ’why are you still breastfeeding?’ – it felt like nothing was off limits.”

“There is no textbook when it comes to parenting and every child/family situation is so different. That’s the beauty of it.”

Speaking to news.com.au, Snezana, an ambassador for Huggies, said she had long been “wary” of posting photos like this online.

“Something so beautiful will undoubtedly be targeted by mummy shamers. They will ask ‘why are you breastfeeding in public’ or say ‘your child is too old to have a dummy’.

“I posted these photos because they come with great memories. But, I have always been worried about what people might say.

“It is really sad others are so quick to judge parents for the way they do things, so instead of judging, why don’t we try to celebrate the fact we do things differently.”

Her move struck a chord with her followers, with the snap receiving 18,000 reactions and hundreds of comments in a matter of hours.

Many commenting on the post said they were thrilled the television star had courageously shared the candid snaps.

“Thank you for sharing these,” wrote one, adding “as long as our babies are safe and loved, there should be no criticism by one mum to another”.

Another added: “Just do what you feel is right for you and your family and stuff the negativity. You are beautiful and blessed.”

Snezana said while she hadn’t had time to comb through the many comments on the post, she was delighted it resonated with so many.

“So many mums and dads have stories about being parent-shamed, so it’s great to see people feeling as if they can bandy together and say this needs to be stopped,” she told news.com.au.

The busy mum-of-three is the first to admit parenting styles are individual – and that even she and Sam have differences of opinion on some matters.

“We have similar styles, the core of our parenting is the same, we have the same moral standing,” she said.

But, I am very super protective and I tend to want to wrap them up in cotton wool.

“However, in terms of the main things, we’re on the same page.”

“THINGS DON”T ALWAYS GO TO PLAN”

Snezana also revealed how staying fit and healthy was key to “keeping calm among chaos”.

The 39-year-old said no matter what she fitted in some type of exercise – even if it was just for a few minutes each day.

“I try to get my workouts done in the mornings, but that doesn’t always go to plan. So basically when I see they (the children) are calm or they are involved with an activity I will try to do it then,” she said.

“They always join me or decide to crawl all over me, or Charlie will decide she needs to feed halfway through.

“A workout can take me a whole day to do, I stop and start. But as long as I get that done and tick it off the list for the day, I am looking after myself.”

Snezana said she hoped her method of raising awareness about the problem of parent-shaming had helped debunk some ideas.

She urges anyone who may be worried or undermined to “be confident, the way you are raising your children is the right way”.

“You as a mum or dad knows what is best for your child so don’t worry about the other person is doing,” she said.

“You do what you do and don’t think twice about what someone else is doing.”
