Parents and carers have been urged to immediately stop using a popular bath toy after children were seriously injured overseas.

The plastic Robo Alive Junior Robotic Baby Shark Bath Toys, and Robo Alive Junior Mini Baby Shark Bath Toys were sold in individual and multipacks between May 1, 2019 and May 25, 2023, and carried by popular retailers including Big W, Kmart, Target, Woolworths, Amazon.com.au and Toymate.

About 7.5 million toys have been affected by the recall globally.

The bath and pool toys are mechanised to swim, and the larger of the two models sing the eponymous ‘Baby Shark’ theme song once it comes into contact with water.

A warning issued by the government Product Safety site said there was a “risk of impalement, laceration and puncture injuries if a child slips and falls onto or sits on the hard plastic fin”.

“Incidents associated with the Robo Alive Junior Robotic Baby Shark bath toy product have occurred overseas,” it said.

Since March 2023, the makers of the toy, Zuru, have replaced the plastic fin with a silicone alternative.

Those who purchased the toy have been told to stop using the product immediately, and can either register the toy for a refund online at Recall RTR, or return the product at the store where they made the initial purchase. No receipt is needed.

Products affected by the recall include the barcode number Baby Shark Product standard GTIN: 10193052005332, and feature the SKU codes 28282, and 25283.
