Mum, 34, reveals how she built a $7m fashion company from public housing after ditching her ex
A single mum who left her partner and moved into public housing with her three young children has built a $7m business.
A hardworking mum has revealed how she built a multi-million pound fashion company from her council house in Britain.
Beth Bartam, 34, from Buxton, Derbyshire, was so desperate for cash after a relationship breakdown she scraped together £100 ($180) for stock to open a Facebook shop.
The mum-of-three started working from her attic but now employs a team of 10 and her firm Fearless is set to turn over £4million ($7m) this year.
She told Daily Star Sunday: “I told myself ‘If I can sell 10 dresses a week that’s £100 ($180) and that would be amazing’ as it would give me my own money to spend on the kids.
“I remember thinking ‘I need to keep going. I need to do it for them.”
Beth left her ex, who she has not named, and moved into a council house with her kids, Effie, 10, Seth, 7, and Albie, 6, in 2011.
The fashion fanatic used her savings to buy clothes she thought would sell online and was chuffed to see how quickly they were snapped up.
She added: “Once the kids were in bed, I’d climb into the attic and sort out the orders. It was freezing so I’d be sat there in my coat packaging everything up.”
Beth’s company Fearless now sells clothing, footwear and accessories, from its own range as well as other brands and has moved to bigger premises.
Beth has now remarried and is mum to stepson Max, 10. She added: “I went with the name Fearless because I wanted to inspire other mums like me.”
