‘Every three months, I take holidays with my husband without my children’

A mum-of-two has shared how she and her husband have a child-free getaway every three months in a bid to stay sane.

You know what they say – having kids is like having a full-time job where you don’t get paid.

But if you’re lucky, you might be able to wangle a kid-free night away on special occasions – provided you have the luxury of childcare.

For one US mum-of-two though, it’s not so much a luxury than it is a priority, The Sun reports.

Texas woman Aubree Paige has revealed how she and her husband Aaron schedule in time each week, month and quarter away from their two children.

Writing for Kidspot, the mum explained how people often make snarky comments about the amount of solo travel she and her husband undertake.

She wrote: “We put ourselves first. Some of you will not understand and some will blatantly disagree … and that’s OK.

“This is our journey, not yours.”

Aubree and Aaron are all too aware that their children will fly the nest one day and say it’s because of that they want to make sure their relationship is as strong as possible – otherwise, they’ll be “left with nothing”.

As such, the couple took their first solo trip when their daughter was just 11 weeks old.

Describing how their baby was “perfectly fine”, Aubree wrote: “While we were gone, we were able to reconnect and remember who we are.

“Life is tough with kids and especially babies, and if you’re not prioritising your relationship, it will easily slip through the cracks.”

With that in mind, the pair schedule in quality time together.

Once a week, they have a date night. Once a month they have a whole night kid-free.

And once every three months, Aubree and Aaron have a four-night getaway.

“This is what works for us. This is what helps us thrive as a couple,” she said.

“So yes, we come first because if we don’t put ourselves first, then we’ll come last… and then there will be nothing left.
