A vaporiser popular with parents helping their little ones get past congestion and other breathing difficulties has been urgently recalled.

Euky Bear Australia announced that its warm steam vaporisers were being recalled over a dangerous defect that could make them overheat.

“If the device is not turned off after steaming, the base of the blue heating module may disintegrate and produce smoke and fumes,” the company said.

The company has listed batch numbers 230301, 231101, A231101 and B231101 for recall, urging parents to stop using them and call customer service for next steps.

The recall decision was made after consultation with the Therapeutic Goods Administration, the company said.

The product was sold online, at baby retailers and at popular pharmacies including Chemist Warehouse between April and August this year.

A number of customers lodged complaints about the vaporisers on Euky Bear’s Facebook page.

“Mine completely blew and disintegrated,” Melissa Thompson wrote.

“Need to check ours, might be why it smelt so toxic last time,” Zoe De Clara wrote.
