Urgent recall on popular Halloween products like costumes and masks
Families are being warned to return popular children’s Halloween items after it was found there is a “potentially deadly defect” which could cause internal burns.
A huge variety of Halloween decorations which may have found its way into the homes of Australian families has been recalled over a defect which could potentially lead to death.
A new alert has been issued for 11 varieties of Halloween masks, headbands, jewellery, candles and decorations distributed by Oceana International Pty Ltd.
Battery compartments in the products are not adequately secured, making batteries easily accessible, according to Product Safety Australia.
“If young children gain access to button batteries and ingest them, they are likely to suffer severe internal burn injuries, which can result in serious injury or death,” the organisation said.
“Button batteries also pose a choking hazard to young children.”
The products were sold across hundreds of home, discount and variety stores across the country from August 1 to September 13.
Products included are light up skull and pumpkin headbands and 2a light up bracelet and earrings.
Decorations like a glowing skeleton candy bowl, light up skull, spider skull and vampire mask are also affected
A similar recall has also been put out for Dusk Australia’s Halloween ceramic ornaments.
They’ve been found to have button battery compartments which are not resistant to being opened by a child.
Ornaments included have product codes: 50205431, 50205448, 50205455, 50205462.
For both products, consumers are urged to return them to the store for a full refund.
