A COUPLE has had their five-month-old baby taken off them in part because they failed to give the boy a name.

A UK judge ruled that the baby should be taken into care after the “emotionally harmful” decision not to name him, the Daily Telegraph reported .

Mrs Justice Parker, a judge in Watford, said the father had refused to name the child, adding: “Every child needs a name.”

She went on: “I truly think that it is emotionally harmful not to give a child a name.”

The judge made her ruling after hearing how the father had attacked and threatened to kill social services staff.

It was also revealed in court that the child’s mother had a learning difficulty and that the couple’s other child, a two-year-old son, was taken off them last year.

The judge said there was nothing to suggest either of the parents had physically harmed their children.

“This is a terribly sad case because father and mother, each of them, have many excellent qualities,” said the judge.

“It is absolutely plain to me that both of them love each of their sons, their boys, from the bottom of their hearts.”
