‘Obsolete’: The Gen X baby names you no longer hear
A TikTok user has gone viral after sharing the popular Gen X names that are “obsolete” in 2024.
A TikTok user has taken it upon themselves to declare the popular Gen X names that are “obsolete” in 2024.
Gen X is the demographic cohort following the Baby Boomers and preceding Millennials – those born between 1965 and 1980, Kidspot reports.
Karen, of course, is on the list, compiled by TikTok account Nostalgia Nut.

‘I want to speak to the manager’
The video attracted more than 2500 comments, with (presumably) middle-aged viewers offering quite a bit of feedback.
“Karen here! I am saddened by what has happened to my name,” one woman commented, jokingly adding: “Is there a Manager (sic) I can speak to? Pronto.”
Another viewer shared: “Mark, Mike, Chirstine, Lisa, Scott and Todd. Every grade in school had at least four Mikes in my class.”
“Every Donna I’ve ever known has been horrible to me my entire life and that’s actually too bad as I really like the name,” a third said.
Many added their own “obsolete” names to the list – Melissa, Jason, Barbara, Brett, Debbie, Amanda, Cheryl, and Heather, among others.
Of course, there was much debate about the age of gen Xers – but some totally embraced their status, such as this Tracey, who wrote: “I’m OK with my name being on the list.”
We’re with you, Tracey – really, ageing is a privilege.
