Mum absolutely trolled after sharing list of names she almost gave her newborn

A influencer has caused a stir online sharing the list of names she almost called her newborn – including Vessel, for a girl, and Theory, for a boy.

Mum mocked for shortlist of 'unique' baby names

There is almost no end to the creative lengths new mums will take to give their baby a unique name.

But one mum has caused a stir on the internet with the shortlist of names she had for her newborn, with some being likened to those used to name a font, not a baby.

Texan content creator Paige Danielle revealed the list of boys and girls names she came so close to picking for her second child, telling her followers they were “all free game now”.

“Giving away my deepest kept secrets! I live for unique baby names,” she captioned with the Instagram reel.

For a girl, she shortlisted Oaken, Vessel, Sparrow, Fern, Nature, Valleigh, Talon, Earth, Stori, Reason, and Crimsyn.

And for a boy, she had Belay, Oak, Current, Windsor, Grey, Merrick, Alder, Oath, Theory, and Written.

The names quickly caused a stir, with one follower asking if the video was a joke.

“Girl chose random words and went (with) it,” one user commented.

“These names sound like organic candles,” wrote another.

Others, however were lost, saying it was a “tragedeigh” or a sad attempt at “trying to find cool edgy names” for a kid and choosing things that sounded more like “dog names”.

“People really need to understand that they’re naming a person and not a pet, like (a person) that might’ve had to use the name Theory in a professional setting,” one wrote.

Many were particularly offended by Vessel, begging the mum “don’t ever do that to your daughter”.

“I don’t think your daughter would appreciate being called ‘vessel’,” one wrote.

“Might as well just name the poor girl womb at that point, Jeighsus,” another tweeted.

While some thought the names sounded like the now mum-of-two took a tour through her pantry to before picking the names – like Nature, Valleigh, “Granola, Barre” – and others tested out how a kid named ‘Theory’ would introduce himself.

“I don’t know who this woman is, but I just had a stroke seeing Valleigh,” another said.

And Comedian Christian Polanco said “these are not baby names, they are fonts”.

The YouTuber and Instagram content creator posted the list after the birth of her second child, a boy named Koah Jae Wind. Her firstborn daughter is named Anthem James Tru.

Despite the criticism, the jokes, and some speculating this was some kind of highly sophisticated trolling that was a growing trend for social media mums, it’s clear this mum loves giving her children one-of-a-kind name.

And she certainly isn’t the first – one mother had to prove her child’s uber-unique name was even real – and she won’t be the last. Not to name her kid something special, or to be mocked mercilessly for entertaining some nice, different, unusual choices.

The question is, did any tickle your fancy?
