Mother shares heartbreaking images of her little girl with eczema

An Aussie mum has shared the “nightmare” ordeal her little girl endured, until a bargain product finally brought their anguish to an end.

Rebecca Little clearly recalls the “nightmare” moment when she had to rush her little girl to hospital.

The mother-of-three from Warragul in Victoria was on her way home from a night out with friends when she looked in the review mirror of her car to find her one-year-old girl Charlotte with a face full of blood.

“Within the first hour of the trip home, her eczema had flared up so badly that the itching became unbearable and her only relief was to scratch, literally tearing her skin off,” Ms Little said.

“I drove straight to the hospital, tears rolling down both of our faces. She was in pain and I was in pain watching her — I’ve never felt so helpless.”

Ms Little told news.com.au that she feared how the doctors would perceive her.

“I thought the doctors and nurses would judge me for not having done anything sooner about her skin,” she said.

“I had tried everything and when I couldn’t find an answer, it broke me. The pain she was experiencing and going through, as parents, my husband Dion and I felt like we failed her but since coming out about our story we have realised how many other parents were also going through it.”

From the moment Charlotte turned one was when the itching began — she was left with dry and reddened skin all over her face and body.

“She wouldn’t keep her mittens on her hand — how do you tell a one year old to stop scratching?”

Charlotte went on to take steroid cream for the next two and a half years to help manage her chronic skin inflammation, but it wasn’t enough.

Ms Little, who is a mummy blogger, said they continued to exhaust every possible avenue including dermatologically recommended skin treatment.

“It consisted of three baths a day with so much bleach that we ended up having to buy bags of pool salts from a hardware store,” she said, but Charlotte would still rip at her skin.

“There were so many infections and no matter what we did when it came to covering it up, she would get to it.”

“Her face and body was always covered in blood — knees, backside, under arms — it was just horrible to watch. I used to stay awake with her at night just so she wouldn’t scratch herself.”

But, from the thousands of dollars spent trying to control her eczema, late last year Ms Little came across a $10 product from Childs Farm which she says changed Charlotte’s life.

Despite multiple hospital visits and dermatologically prescribed treatments, nothing really worked — untils he came across Childs Farm products.

“When I opened up the packaging, I was sceptical. Most of the time I can’t use products like that on Charlotte as they’re just too strong for her skin,” she said after a colleague gave her a box filled with body washes, bubbles and a moisturiser.

“But all the products derive from natural ingredients which are approved by dermatologists for use on all skin types.”

However, Ms Little said that given their experiences, she was doubtful.

“Within the first few days of using the cream twice a day, I noticed a change — Charlotte’s skin cleared up massively. The patches of eczema, redness and itchiness disappeared,” she said.

Ms Little, who met the CEO of the product after she heard of Charlotte’s story, said she is not sponsored or paid to talk about it. “I simply know it has changed my life,” she said.

“Heaps of skin care companies have contacted me and I am not going to change a good thing,” she said. “It has changed Charlotte’s life for the better. She always says to me now, ‘Mummy look at my skin, it is so beautiful.’”

Ms Little said they give Charlotte who is now three and a half years old, a bubble bath two to three times a week and moisture her body everyday, twice a day with the product.

“I can honestly say we haven’t had a flare up since. Not only has the colour and glow come back to her skin but we haven’t had to touch the steroid cream since. It’s incredible.”

“I understand it is never going to cure her and it will always be there but it has bettered her skin to the point you will never know she has a skin condition.”

The “miracle” moisturiser is available at Woolworths in-store and online for $10 and comes after its success in the UK.

The brand was founded in the UK by mother, Joanna Jensen, after she struggled to find products suitable to her daughter’s sensitive skin.
