Some of the most popular baby names for the upcoming year have been unveiled after experts highlighted a key new trend.

With the likes of big fashion houses like Valentino and Alexander McQueen adding pretty blooms to their catwalk shows for 2024, baby name pros have predicted that florals will become a go-to for parents-to-be too.

But which will be most in bloom in the coming twelve months?

Flower and gift delivery service, Eflorist, have collated the top ten floral-themed baby names for girls and boys – and there’s some surprising entries at the top of each list, The Sun reported.

According to them, Juniper will be the standout moniker for little girls, which means ‘young’ or ‘evergreen’.

While Orion is the boys’ ultimate winner and, just like the flower it’s named after, the name symbolises good health and happiness.

Eflorist – who came to the name conclusions after looking at historical ONS data on new baby names dating back to 1904 – then went on to detail the other names that are set to grow and grow.

Following close behind in the girls’ category are Azalea – said to mean abundance and overwhelming joy and success – and Blossom, which has links to new beginnings and beauty.

The girls’ category is completed by Poppy, Lily, Daisy, Jasmine, Rose, Indigo and Violet.

Meanwhile, in the second and third spot on the boys’ list are Rowan and Ren.

Rowan is a flower which was traditionally used for protection, while in Celtic it means the ‘tree of life’ and is thought to inspire courage and wisdom.

Ren, on the other hand, is rich in Japanese culture and is the Buddhist symbol of perfection and purity.

So what do the experts make of the unique monikers and the bloom trend in general?

David Denyer, a Flower Expert from Eflorist, revealed why he thinks they are set to become a big trend of 2024.

“From looking into historical trends, we can see a clear connection with parents being increasingly drawn to names that evoke a sense of beauty and individuality,” he explained.

“Each name carries its own unique story, and we anticipate these floral-inspired names to blossom not only in popularity, but also in the hearts of new parents who want a meaningful name for their little ones.

“These 2024 predictions reflect a trend towards meaningful names that carry a connection to the beauty of the natural world.

“And we are sure to expect to see more flower-themed names blossoming in years to come”.
