Kate channels Princess Diana in red dress as she leaves hospital
KATE wore a long red dress as she and Prince William showed the public their third child. Her outfit was an affectionate homage to the late Princess Diana.
FOR Kate Middleton‘s first public appearance after giving birth on Monday, the Duchess of Cambridge chose yet another outfit that pays homage to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
The 36-year-old paid a touching tribute to Princess Diana as she stepped out in a bespoke red dress from British designer Jenny Packham, that featured a Peter Pan collar when she introduced her third baby to the world.
Her post-baby look is strikingly similar to a dress that Diana, Princess of Wales, wore for the birth of Prince Harry in September 1984. Diana’s frock was a long scarlet jacket by Jan van Velden, with white shirt and red bow.
Kate’s patriotic outfit was fitting for St George’s Day, looking as flawless as ever as she paired the shift dress with classic nude court shoes, $940, by Gianvito Rossi.
But it’s not the first time Kate has taken style inspiration from Diana, who died more than 20 years ago.
In July 2013, for the birth of Prince George, she wore a pale blue polka dot dress that had similarities to Princess Diana’s gown for the birth of Prince William. Within hours, Kate’s dress sold out online.
When Charlotte was born in May 2015, Kate chose a buttercup yellow dress with a loose fitting shift silhouette.
All three of Kate’s baby reveal dresses have been designed by Jenny Packham, a British designer primarily for her ready-to-wear collections and bridal gowns.
Apart from the Duchess of Cambridge, Jenny Packham’s clientele includes Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Blake Lively, Taylor Swift and Emily Blunt as well as Kate’s younger sister Pippa Middleton.
The Duchess of Cambridge had help from her stylist and former personal assistant Natasha Archer ahead of her new son’s world reveal. Ms Archer was spotted leaving St Mary’s Hospital in London an hour after the birth, while hairdresser Amanda Cook Tucker was also believed to be on hand.
The Duchess of Cambridge went into labour first thing Monday morning and the new prince was born at 11.01am weighing 3.8kg.
She wore the Queen’s pearl drop earrings to finish the look, and wrapped the baby prince in a white shawl by GH Hurt & Son, a Nottingham-based brand who also made blankets for George and Charlotte as newborns.
