Brittany Higgins’ emotional baby announcement
Brittany Higgins has shared a significant update about her personal life after revealing she was pregnant with her first child.
Brittany Higgins has revealed her unborn baby boy has been given the all-clear after blood tests suggested he might have a genetic disorder.
Detailing the pregnancy scare for the first time she revealed that an amniocentesis had confirmed her baby was doing well after blood tests raised alarm bells.
“Given everything going on — it’s an understatement to say that we’ve had an acutely stressful pregnancy,” she said.
“A fortnight ago, David and I had the shock of our lives after the midwife told us halfway through my second trimester my blood test had raised some red flags.
“Our baby had a high probability of a genetic disorder – which wouldn’t have mattered to us – but scarily could mean he may be incompatible with life outside of the womb.
“After an amniocentesis and a seemingly never ending wait our prayers were answered. Our little guy is perfectly fine and healthy.”
Ms Higgins Instagram post was accompanied with a picture of her at her French home and with her husband and dog Kingston.
Ms Higgins said she had decided to tell her story to address the “stigma” from the “very real” challenges many women face when trying to start a family.
“My mind can’t help but drifting back to that waiting room in the hospital, full of pregnant women, who were all having the same test as us and whether they had been so fortunate,” she said.
“Talking about it takes the stigma out of these very real situations people go through when trying to start families.
“Big thankyou to our friends and family who have been such rocks for us during the past few weeks of uncertainty. We love you lots and are so thankful for your support.”
Ms Higgins said she was “Feeling grateful for our little boy.”
Brittany Higgins announced she was pregnant with her first child in September, on the eve of her defamation battle against former boss Linda Reynolds.
The former political adviser revealed on social media that she was expecting her first child with her husband David Sharaz who she married on the Gold Coast in June.
Ms Higgins shared the news with her 60,000 followers from France that she’s about to become a mum.
“Can’t wait to meet you! Beyond excited to welcome a new member to our little family. Your parents are already obsessed with you and you aren’t even here yet,” she wrote.
But a shadow now hangs over Ms Higgins’ French home which she is selling amid her defamation fight with Linda Reynolds who is seeking to overturn the trust that bought the property.
Ms Higgins and her husband are trying to sell their French home as legal bills for the former political staffer mount. Ms Higgins and partner David Sharaz bought the house last year and only left to live in the southwest of France in December.
A year before moving, Ms Higgins was awarded a little more than $2.4m for her loss of earning capacity, legal costs, medical expenses, domestic assistance and $400,000 “for hurt, distress and humiliation” over her alleged rape by former colleague Bruce Lehrmann in Parliament House in 2019.
BThe three-bedroom, two-bathroom home on a 5000sq m property is listed for $690,000. It sits about 100km east of Bordeaux.
