Australia’s most popular baby names for 2020
Experts have been left surprised by a “big jump” in an unique baby name trend in Australia. So, is your child’s name on the list?
Australia’s most popular baby names for 2020 have been revealed and according to McCrindle Research, Charlotte and Oliver are the most popular names for the year.
Olivia, Amelia, Isla and Mia also made it to the top ten list for girls while Noah, Jack, William and Leo were on the favourites for boys.
More unconventional names are also on the rise with a growing trend towards gender-neutral names such as Charlie and Riley.

Plus, there appears to be a trend towards more unusual names such as Luna which sits at 49 up from 62 in previous years.
“That was one of the biggest jumps, I was quite surprised by that,” McCrindle Research communications director Ashley Fell says of the name.
LESS POPULAR NAMES FROM PREVIOUS DECADES
A downward trend shows that names such as Jessica aren’t as popular as previous decades.
“Today’s parents have more access to information than any other time in history,” McCrindle states on its website.
“Parents are inundated with options, research, and meaning, all impacting the names they choose for their children.”
