Two-headed pig born in China saved from slaughter
LESS than a month after photos of a two-headed bull shark made world headlines, a pig has been born with the same condition.
A PIG born with two heads in a Chinese village has been saved from the chop.
The animal, which has two ears, two snouts and shares an eye, was born on April 10 in Jianxi province.
The condition is called "axial bifurcation" and came to international attention last month when a two-headed bull shark was discovered.
"Halfway through the process of forming twins, the embryo stops dividing," Michigan State University researcher Michael Wagner told NBC news.
The pig's owners were reportedly talked out of killing the unfortunate creature by the local vet.
It is not the first time a two-headed pig has been born in China. In 2001, a Chinese farmer from Jiangsu province allowed international media to photograph a piglet born with two heads and three eyes.
