A woman has riled up TikTok viewers after claiming that a stranger offered her $200,000 for her Doberman pinscher puppy.
A woman has riled up TikTok viewers after claiming that a stranger offered her $US200,000 ($303,000) for her Doberman pinscher puppy.
In a video that has now been watched more than 950,000 times, Alexis Elliott explains the situation to her followers, the New York Post reports.
“Someone offered us $200k for our puppy, and I told my husband, ‘absolutely f**king not’,” the Los Angeles-based woman said.
“Would you guys sell your dogs for $200k? Like, that is my baby!”
The entire situation proved divisive from the start – with some commenters doubting the offer was serious, or that the offer was ever made, while others couldn’t believe Ms Elliott had said no.
“It’s a crime to not accept 200k,” one said.
“In this economy? Yes,” another wrote.
“Would run upstairs so fast and pack his bag,” someone else joked.
Other users found the saga interesting enough to put out their own responses to the video, letting the world know that they would eagerly give up their own dogs for $200,000.
One response, from user @iamyelitzii has now gone viral, drumming up more than five million views.
The hilarious post stitches the original video together with a clip of the content creator’s own dog, standing on the footpath next to a packed suitcase and looking bewildered.
The Post reached out to Elliot and @iamyelitzii for further comment.
Some were willing to entertain the notion of parting with their pooches, but felt the need to let the world know that $200,000 wouldn’t be nearly enough.
Many more found the entire idea completely repulsive.
“ABSOLUTELY NOT. The people saying yes should not have a dog tbh,” one user wrote. “That boy is my life.”
“A lot of you in these comments don’t deserve a dog,” another announced.
“Omg never. The thought of my dog being confused and feeling abandoned breaks my heart,” a third said.
“I wouldn’t sell my dog for one million [dollars],” one said.
The most popular comment on the original video doubted that the whole scenario ever transpired.
“Nobody offered you 200k for a dog, people with that kind of money are mostly financially smart. And you did not birth it,” the sceptic wrote.
Others chimed in, saying that it had happened to them in the past.
“Someone offered me 100k for my dog,” one remembered. “He was a pretty well-off athlete. Not everyone is smart with their money.”
“I had a lady offer us $1M for our dog, and when we laughed she said, ‘No seriously, make me an offer, I’ll pay it’,” another claimed.
