Two heart-wrenching pet adoption ads have touched hearts across the country as blind cat and terminally-ill dog each seek forever homes.

At the Ten Lives Shelter in Hobart, a one-year-old completely blind cat named Herbie is in search of a new family.

Described as a “very smoochy and affectionate gentleman” by his temporary caregivers, Herbie is said to love rubbing against people and wandering around purring softly.

The shelter says he requires a quiet home with no other cats, dogs, or young children, and will require frequent company.

Herbie is blind, and both his eyes were removed due to severe disease.

The shelter said he had likely been highly vision-impaired or blind for several months prior to arriving at the shelter and is adjusting to living without vision.

However, the shelter asks he is kept indoors or have access to an enclosed outdoor run.

Adopting Herbie will require keeping furniture in the same place and speaking softly before approaching or stroking him will help him feel safe and at ease as he adjusts.

A Facebook post from the shelter noted that Herbie is “full of joy and fun” and happiest when in the company of humans, purring blissfully on someone’s lap.

In Western Australia, the RSPCA is searching for a special family to provide end-of-life care for 11-year-old American staffy cross Gypsy.

Gypsy has cancerous tumours and, despite the best efforts of the RSPCA staff to remove them, the cancer is likely to return.

Gypsy needs a peaceful home where she can live out her remaining days away from the stress of kennel life.

The length of time she’ll be with her new family is uncertain, but the RSPCA staff member, Lou, encourages anyone interested to check out Gypsy’s adoption profile and book a meet and greet.

“I’m telling you now, once you meet this sweet old girl, you’ll fall in love,” Lou said.

Gypsy has been living life to the fullest while at the RSPCA, ticking off items on her bucket list, such as ordering a puppaccino, going for a car ride, taking a sun-soaked walk among the trees, receiving her own ball, and trying pasta with cheese.

However, the RSPCA says her greatest wish is to find a home and a family to spend the rest of her life with.

The adoption ads, which have received thousands of interactions, have received a heartwarming response, with many potential new pet parents expressing their interest in providing a loving home for Herbie and Gypsy.

“I am so heartened to see that several people have offered to give a home to this gorgeous girl. This post has reduced me to tears,” wrote one person about Gypsy’s ad.

“How beautiful is that all these people are wanting to love her – so beautiful – makes her life so special,” noted another.

Herbie’s ad has also attracted plenty of love, with many expressing their admiration for the blind cat’s resilience and joy.

“He’s so adorable,” one wrote.

“They can certainly live a beautifully enriched life with the right people,” added another.
