Dashcam captures moment dog falls from car in Clyde North
A pet dog has fallen from a moving car as it navigated a roundabout in Melbourne, with dashcam capturing the shocking moment.
Dashcam footage has captured the shocking moment a pet dog fell from a car as it navigated a roundabout in Melbourne’s southeast.
The vision shows the dog, which appears to be a king charles cavalier, falling head first out the rear passenger side window as the silver Toyota Yaris turned right at a roundabout in Grices Road, Clyde North.
The impact sent the pup rolling across the bitumen, but thankfully it was able to get back to its feet and after a quick look around it went running up the nature strip after the car.
The video, uploaded to social media by Dash Cam Owners Australia, was filmed last Thursday evening by a vehicle travelling through the roundabout behind the car.
The pooch appeared uninjured as its owners quickly pulled over and went to check on their pet.
While the RACV says Victorian road rules doesn’t require motorists to restrain an animal inside a vehicle, “restraining pets is considered the safest approach for both human passengers and animals alike”.
“When your pet is safely buckled up, they’ll be less likely to cause distractions, escape or try to sit on your lap – which isn’t allowed on the road,” the automotive body said on their website.
“We recommend using a proper pet seatbelt or a pet carrier secured in the back seat.”
Dogs travelling on the back of utes or in trailers need to be secured using a tether or a crate in Victoria to ensure they don’t fall from the vehicle.
