Brazen dog theft outside IGA captured on CCTV
SHOCKING CCTV footage outside a Perth IGA shows a couple brazenly stealing a dog a 14-year-old had left just moments before.
CCTV footage of a brazen theft of a pet has left a Perth family shocked and desperate to get their beloved dog back.
Pippy, a two-and-a-half-year-old lagotto, was tied up outside the Nedlands IGA in the city’s west on Sunday afternoon by his 14-year-old owner at around 5.30pm.
Soon after, the CCTV footage shows a man and woman walking towards the dog.
They then appear to glance inside the store, seemingly unconcerned that it’s daylight and other shoppers are around.
The footage then shows the woman walking towards a car, as the man unties Pippy’s leash and runs away with her.
A WA police spokesman told news.com.au the investigation is “still ongoing” and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Pippy is a lagotto, a special breed of hypo-allergenic dog, She’s desexed and microchipped.
Alex Vines, the dog’s owner and mum to three now devastated children, told news.com.au that Pippy brings a lot of joy to the family.
“We love her with all our hearts. It took us years to decide to have a dog. It wasn’t a decision we made lightly as our kids have asthma and hayfever so we wanted to get a hypo-allergenic dog,” Ms Vines said.
“We tried to work out how to budget for a dog as the upkeep is so expensive. But we feel so lucky to have Pippy in our lives, she is a beautiful, sweet spirit. With a household full of teenage craziness and life’s usual complexities, Pippy is the rock that calms us all.”
The family is pleading with the heartless thieves to return Pippy immediately, and have offered a reward for her safe return.
“I just hope they’re looking after her. They’ve brought so much grief upon our family — if they could please drop her back to Nedlands or to a vet. We just miss her so much and want her back desperately,” Ms Vines said.
It’s believed a silver Volkswagen Golf may have been involved in the theft.
Anyone with any information about the theft should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
