‘She’ll be right’: Aussie dad rips down fence to fit ‘great Australian dream’

An Aussie father’s surprise purchase for his family took a dramatic turn when he was forced to cut down his fence to park it.

Neighbour's tirade about caravan goes viral

An Aussie dad has gone viral after unveiling a humorous hack for prospective caravan owners unsure of how to fit the “great Australian dream” into their backyards.

Cameron Remy, who is known on social media for his tips on raising identical twin boys Jaxon and Cruz, gained thousands of views after he was forced to remove part of his Colorbond fence to park his Starcraft Jayco on the side of his house.

Mr Remy, who is the owner of a small family motor dealer business, was scheduled to meet up with someone to purchase some cars, when the opportunity to buy a caravan had also come up.

“My wife had a three-year plan that she wrote last year and one of them was to have a caravan,” he told news.com.au.

After viewing some other vans, Mr Remy came across a 2014 Jayco that was advertised for $15,000.

With some negotiating, the motor enthusiast who was competing with two other buyers for the van, managed to cut its initial price tag to almost half its original price and purchased the motorhome for $8,000.

After breaking the news about his purchase to his wife, Mr Remy hitched the van on the back of a car he had also just bought and “boot scooted it” back to his house.

“When I got it home to my carport, I tried to reverse it but it didn’t fit, so I thought ‘where the hell am I going to put this?’,” he said.

Mr Remy managed to reverse it into his front yard, but with the trailer needing some renovation it was looking more like an “eyesore”.

“I was like, ‘I could probably fit this bad boy down the side of my house’,” Mr Remy said.

To make it easier for himself, Mr Remy decided to cut down his fence, with the father documenting the project in a TikTok video.

“Why would you buy a caravan without checking if it fits in the driveway first?” Mr Remy’s wife asks in the video which received over 1.9 million views.

Mr Remy replied with the only solution: “She’ll be right, I’ll just cut the fence down and rebuild her.”

With the help of power tools and some basic construction skills, the father was able to deconstruct part of his fence before backing his new project into his property.

He then reconstructed the fence, with the parked trailer leaving only millimetres in space on each side of the home and opposite fence.

The whole debacle came three weeks after the family redid their lawn, which Mr Remy documented in another video.

But the caravan’s story doesn’t end there. While it wasn’t captured on camera, Mr Remy recalled the moment the van almost crashed into his family’s house.

Because the van is a four-wheeler, it had to be placed on tiles to secure it – but the van had other plans.

“I don’t know what happened … but the bloody thing slipped off and I tried to hold on to it and it nearly ran into my house,” Mr Remy said.

“It rolled off the tiles and the second tile stopped it from running into my house.”

Mishaps aside, Mr Remy is in the process of renovating the van and hopes to take it out with his family soon.

The humorous video has captured the attention of thousands of viewers, with many commenting with laughing emojis at the “very Australian” misfortune.

“Real man right there, got a problem, fix a problem, have a beer, the end,” one comment read.

“Top bloke, puts a caravan in the yard, off the street,” said another.

Meanwhile other empathetic Australians shared how they made the same mistake with their own caravans, boats and vehicles

“My partner bought a boat last week and didn’t check to see if it fits in the shed first. It’s now sitting at a mates house around the corner,” one woman said.

Others went to new extremes, building an “entire new driveway and gate” for their camper in the front yard.

“My Dad did this, with a massive school bus. He had to buy an old billboard advert poster to fit over the top – it must be a Qld thing,” a third person commented.

Another joked about the exchange Mr Remy had with his wife, commenting: “Why is this every marriage in Australia? As a wife I would be swearing about having to muck around with the fence.”

Removing fences to fit caravans isn’t the only hack the young father has gone viral for, with the dad posting many more uncanny tricks to his TikTok and Instagrams accounts @dadtwintips.

These include parent hacks on how to get children to eat dinner when they’re not hungry, how to stop a bottle of bubbles from spilling and how to wrap a child in a towel after a bath so it doesn’t fall off.

Mr Remy also posts a number of challenges to his channel and documents the daily struggles and highlights of being a father to twin boys.

The dad first went viral after posting a video documenting a day in the life of fathering twins.

“If you’re twin parents, your life is just full throttle 24/7,” Mr Remy said.

“I’ve had a lot of people reach out and ask for advice (on how to be a twin parent), so I want to help out wherever I can.”
