Shoppers raving about $10 Bunnings item that kills flies
It’s summer, which means many of us are struggling with a common problem – but shoppers are raving about a product that solves the issue.
As every Aussie will know there’s one sure fire sign that summer is well and truly here.
No, it’s not cicadas chirping or being scalded by your seatbelt as you get into the car — it’s flies.
And when we say flies, we mean flies everywhere, no matter how diligent you are in keeping your screendoor shut (and how many times you yell at your kids so do the same).
Here at news.com.au we’re personally invested in keeping flies out of the home — which is why we excited were to learn of a non-toxic Bunnings product getting glowing reviews on Facebook.
The only catch is that it will be rather, ahem, smelly as it works — but users say it is a small price to pay in return for no flies.
The Envirosafe Fly Trap costs just $10 and uses a non-toxic bait to lure and then trap pesky flies inside its bottle-like prison.
It also comes with a hook at the top, meaning it can be easily hung from a doorway or patio to stop flies in their tracks.
In the Bunnings Mums Facebook group the Envirosafe Fly Trap was described as a “brilliant”, albeit “gross” solution to fly problems.
“The key is to put it out for the first time on a hot day,” one mum shared.
“Then it starts to really stink and attract the flies … it stinks but we haven’t had flies come in the house since then and they don’t linger outside our back-door. We use them every summer.”
“So embarrassed when I saw how many ended up in here after one day!” another said of the fly trap.
“Honestly these fly traps are awesome, I’m in south east Queensland and there’s swarms of flies at the moment,” one person shared, also advising to “be aware they STINK after a week”.
The Bunnings fly trap is not the only solution to gain traction on social media — in 2020 a trick that involved hanging a zip-lock bag full of water and some coins above your door also got the tick of approval from fly-weary people.
One woman said she hasn’t “seen a fly for weeks” since doing the hack, while another said it worked like magic.
“I have no idea how or why this utter witchcraft works, but it does!” one person wrote.
“We live on a working farm and two days ago were being driven nuts by big buzzy flies, put this up and they have literally vanished. Not even dead on window sills just vanished!” another person shared.
