Bunnings brings back hugely popular item with a twist
Bunnings Warehouse has released a new collection of pots created by an Indigenous artist after the success of last year’s collection.
A new collection of plant pots created by an Indigenous artist has been released at Bunnings after the hugely popular success of last year’s collection.
Pots featuring dogs of the Yuendumu, 120km from Alice Springs, on them created by Warlukurlangu Artist Wilma Napangardi Poulson are available in 120 Bunnings stores around Australia, as well as online.
The pots are priced at $18.99 each, with the products from the range directly benefiting both the artist and the Warlukurlangu Artists of Yuendumu Art Community.
Wilma has been painting with the Warlukurlangu Artists since 2005, and has painted many Dreamings including the Snake Vine Dreaming relating to the Mt. Theo area.
Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation Manager Cecilia Alfonso revealed the inspiration was about responding to the current environment in remote communities.
Dogs in these remote communities help contribute to the health of the local people.
“The dog paintings are a good example of remote Indigenous artists responding in a positive and fun way to their contemporary environment,” Cecilia told news.com.au.
“Dogs abound in most remote communities and the art centre has been paying for vets to treat the local dogs for many years so these happy dogs are an indication of the good health of the animals.
“The dogs live very closely with the people and having healthy dogs helps towards improving the health of the local people.”
The move comes after a 2021 collection where Bunnings stocked a range of pots featuring art from Warlukurlangu Artists – one of the oldest 100 per cent Aboriginal-owned art co-operations in Australia.
