‘Up in flames’: Woman slammed for Kmart seagrass light hack
A woman has been slammed for a Kmart homewares hack, with many labelling the item “dangerous” and “ugly”.
A Kmart shopper didn’t get the reaction she expected when she shared a light shade hack, with many commenters labelling the item “dangerous”.
The woman shared her cheap version of a shaggy lamp shade to Facebook, saying she had always wanted a seagrass light shade – which can retail for hundreds of dollars – but the steep price tag always put her off.
She said to make her version, she used a $32 pendant light, a hot glue gun and $3 pack of raffia.

But people online were quick to point the dangers of having so much raffia so close to a hot light, warning her it could start a fire.
The post has since been deleted following the backlash, Daily Mail Australia reported.
One social media user commented on her post: “Oh no! So dangerous. I’d be taking it down as lovely as it is. The light bulb could get far too hot and up in flames the raffia will go.
Another added: “Please take these lights down. I lost my home and everything in it in the Lismore floods, trust me you don’t want to lose your home and everything you own to a fire.”
Others were more concerned about the aesthetic, calling the light shade “ugly” while one compared it to two-minute noodles.
One said: “It looks like my damaged hair after I bleached it for the fifth time.”

The range, released last week, was designed to provide simple yet cost-effective alternatives to change the look of a home.
The DIY products give customers the opportunity to make big or small changes with wallpaper, flooring, curtains and blinds.
“We are thrilled to deliver another new and exciting range of homewares this winter with the bonus of our new DIY range,” Kmart’s divisional merchandise manager Meryn Serong said.
