The Block 2021: Inside Mitch and Mark’s winning home

The judges weren't a fan of Mitch and Mark coastal-style home, yet the boys managed to take home the win — here’s a look inside the $4m property.

Mark and Mitch win The Block 2021

Block All Stars Mitch and Mark managed to sell their contemporary, coastal style home for a cool $4,044,444 — despite consistently bad feedback by the judges.

The boys took home a total of $744,444 in prize money after selling their three-bedroom home for $644,444 above the reserve, and nabbing an additional $100,000 in prize money.

Mitch said they never expected to sell for that amount.

“This changes our lives as we’ve got a mortgage that we can’t jump over, but with this prize we can take a great leap at it now,” he said.

Mark added that while they were shocked by the win, they stuck to their guns about what they thought a family home was about.

“It was as a big risk,” he said.

The boys copped a fair bit of criticism by the judges, notably for their the lack of pantry in their kitchen, design of their media room, as well as their living and dining rooms.

Kitchen

The judges described Mitch and Mark’s kitchen as “modern traditional” and felt it was very Hamptons. They also appreciated the breakfast nook but it was their lack of a traditional pantry cabinet that let them down. But, the boys fixed the issue by later adding a new cabinet to their butler’s pantry.

Living room

The boys had an open layout for their living room which featured a luxurious L-shaped modular sofa and marble coffee tables. However, the judges weren’t a fan of the structure of the room, saying the pieces had no real relationship to one another.

Dining room

Mitch and Mark opted for a long solid timber table as the hero of their dining room which they paired with upholstered winged dining chairs. It matched their overall coastal vibe for the house, but the judges felt it wasn’t cohesive enough.

Guest bedroom

At first, they copped harsh feedback for the guest room giving off a claustrophobic feeling and having safe styling, but during redo room week, the boys upped their game, giving it a new pastel palette which the judges loved.

Bathroom

Simple yet stunning — the boys' bathroom really impressed the judges.

They opted for pink marble fan tiles, brass tapware and plain white tiles everywhere else in the room.

Media room

The boys created a multifunctional entertaining space to be used as a media room or wine cellar. It sadly wasn’t a hit with the judges who weren’t impressed by the styling.

Master bedroom

The master bedroom also had a soft colour palette with the judges captivated by the elegance of the bedlinen and overall styling. While the room was small, it was made up for in its sophisticated look.

Master ensuite bathroom

The boys spent a fair bit on the Carrara marble slab tiles and green mosaic tiles featured on the wall behind the vanity — and it paid off. The judges described it as “really well thought through … like a jewel box of a room”. However, the positioning of their glass shower screen let them down.

Guest bedroom

The boys went for a gender neutral decorating scheme and the judges loved it. It was a playful, whimsical children’s room.

Walk-in wardrobe

Who doesn’t love a walk-in wardrobe and Mitch and Mark nailed theirs with ample space and storage options. They even added a mirror to create the illusion of more space.

Laundry

The only issue in their laundry was the washer and dryer had been installed with the doors opening the wrong way — other than that it’s overall classic look with brass tapware and door pulls, was a winner.
