The Block 2020 recap: Hallways and laundry reveals | Photos
Luke and Jasmin came in second despite with a ‘perfect’ hallway that deserved the win. But it will be a different story come auction day.
The Blockheads scrambled to finish the interior of their homes this week, and it showed. While some of them proved they’re not interior designers, former Blockheads returned to prove they’re definitely not artists. Step away from the canvases and let’s discuss each space.
JIMMY AND TAM CAME FIRST (WITH THE HELP OF THE GNOME)
The entry was an odd one, with a glorious chandelier that feels too vintage and elegant to sit against such modern joinery. And since when was it a thing to put a laundry in an entry way?
Much like the kitchen, the mushy pea cabinets in here look cheap. The powder room is actually very successful and the one saving grace this week.
The flooring worked, the mirror was retro-cool and the kit kat tiles were sublime. This is the only space in the entire home they actually got right! The pop art of Jimmy and Tam though: what’s the number for council clean-up?
LUKE AND JASMIN CAME SECOND
Once again Luke and Jasmin did what they do best: nail cohesion. The entry is a perfect example of how a space can be simple yet stunning. The dado rails, chevron flooring and glass door are all phenomenal.
The powder room wallpaper is a bit much, but overall they deserved the win, especially because they’re the only ones to deliver a laundry that doesn’t feel tighter than post-lockdown Lulu Lemon’s. Save the crying for auction day Jasmin; you’ll be wiping tears away with 100 dollar bills.
HARRY AND TASH TIED THIRD
We have to address the elephant in the room. Or in this case, the art in the entry way. I just can’t. It’s as flattering as see-through leggings and as luxe as Aldi wine. The architecture in this zone is indeed quite stunning, the skylights are heavenly and the pendant is divine. So all is not lost on the design-front.
Though I do agree with Neale; the styling falls flat. For a luxury home, can we talk about how tiny the laundry is? To be fair, the design is pretty stock standard too. I do love me some Harry and Tash but it wasn’t their best week.
SARAH AND GEORGE TIED THIRD
Sarah and George could have installed cork flooring and sponged the walls in the entry and I’d still love it thanks to that arched door. It’s officially saved 2020. But in the powder room, things were less impressive. Why is a print lifted straight from Nanna’s blouse adorning the walls? It’s so at odds with the luxury aesthetic of the home.
Lastly, someone please call the RSPCA because that beagle looks depressed and I can’t say I blame him. Why in a house of this size are you locking your dog in solitary confinement inside a laundry that’s already too small? Move that pet bed into the living room?
DANIEL AND JADE TIED THIRD
Call the walls cream, call them vanilla, call them pearl; I’ll just call them boring. It’s a pretty dire first impression in the entry way. That said, at least Daniel and Jade didn’t clutter this zone like a few of the other teams did.
The long runner was a nice touch, but overall the space gives you no reason to stop and take anything in. The Florence Broadhurst wallpaper was lovely, but why here and why now?
Daniel and Jade keep throwing something new at the wall each week hoping it’ll stick. It makes the rooms of the home feel like every couple to come out of The Bachelor; you get the sense they don’t really go together. The powder room and laundry were just as underwhelming.
