Mum’s ‘amazing’ $500 Bunnings dining room set makeover

One mum has revealed the simple way she upgraded her $180 dining room table and chairs to a chic “$2000” set in just two days.

Buying a new dining room table and chairs can be expensive, which is why this mum’s trick for turning her $180 table and chairs into a set worth “$2000” is taking Facebook by storm.

Posting on the Bunnings Mums Australia Facebook group, Kimmi Moore shared how she and her fiance Tim Turner spent the weekend turning a second-hand table and chairs into a seriously chic Hamptons-style set.

Ms Moore paid $180 for the table and 10 chairs off Gumtree, then spent a further $300 buying white paint, “lots of sandpaper” and a dark timber stain.

She spent a further $100 on fabric from Spotlight to reupholster the chairs, which Ms Moore did by unscrewing the existing cushions from the chairs, cutting the new material to size and then attached with a staple gun.

“I don’t want to touch another piece of sandpaper for at least a month now,” Ms Moore ended her post.

Ms Moore’s hard work paid off, with her “stunning” efforts in the “bargain” makeover praised by others in the group.

“What a difference! It looks amazing!!” one wrote, while another added: “Looks fantastic! Can imagine everyone around for Christmas lunch!”

Another claimed she had dramatically increased the price of her dining chairs and table, writing: “And now you have a $2000 set.”

One mum said the transformation had encouraged her to do the same to her current dining room set.

“Wow – what a transformation! You have now inspired me to do exactly the same thing with my crappy dining table & chairs which is also that yucky brown tan colour,” they wrote.

INCREDIBLE BUNNINGS CUBBY MAKEOVER

It seems mums aren’t just using Bunnings for transforming their homes at the moment, with Instagram influencer Eleesha Quinn transforming an ordinary cubby house from Bunnings into a stylish haven for her three daughters in just two weeks.

Ms Quinn, who lives in Bundaberg, told news.com.au she got her inspiration for the design while looking online at ideas for the new home she and her husband are going to build.

Ms Quinn used the $1896 STILLA Hideout Tower Cubby House, using Bunnings’ play equipment assembly service to put it together.

Then with the help of her husband and parents, she painted the cubby house white and the roof charcoal.

Ms Quinn showed off the results of her stunning cubby makeover last week.

The whole project took two weeks to build.

In keeping with the theme, Ms Quinn also added a $19 brass bell and $18.90 matching door handle as well as two $15.40 charcoal flowerboxes to its veranda, all from Bunnings.

Around the cubby house, which has a sandpit underneath, they built a wooden deck complete with a white pergola adorned with $18 solar party lights, also from Bunnings.

Ms Quinn decided to add the deck to prevent a common problem that plagued cubby houses.

“I said to hubby I don’t want there to be this huge patch of dead grass because it’s shaded all the time,” she explained. “That will be where the girls will want to play in the afternoon, let’s do a deck under it.”

On the deck Ms Quinn put two adorable child-sized sun lounges that she purchased from Costco years ago, sewing charcoal covers for the green and white cushions.

For the finishing touch, she added a $400 rattan swing chair from homewares store Hunter & Nomad.
