Mum wows with her ridiculously organised home office

A woman has created her “dream” walk-in storage space after using affordable items from a retail chain now competing with Kmart.

Inside mum's 'amazing' The Reject Shop storage makeover

An Aussie mum who took to social media showing off her incredibly organised home office, has impressed hundreds of followers with her Reject Shop makeover.

While most DIY projects often feature some of the more notable retail chains, The Reject Shop has long been a favourite of budget-savvy shoppers, including the mum-of-three.

The woman, who has been shopping at the store for eight years, transformed her office space into an “organiser’s paradise” using the retailer’s affordable products.

“Hands down the best design decision we made and an organiser’s paradise with shelves galore, power points to hide devices away and free up benchspace and all hidden away by a closed door,” she posted on Facebook.

To help create the space, she opted for 34-litre large carry storage containers priced at $9.50 each and stationary drawers costing $15.

“I have far too much storage space … said no one ever,” she told her Instagram followers.

She explained that having an organised space saves time when looking for items.

In fact, most rooms in her house are fit with plastic containers.

“Storage and organisation solutions are meant to enhance productivity and ultimately make life easier,” the mum wrote on her Instagram page.

“The old adage function over form is ever relevant to organising spaces. Our storage solutions need to meet our daily needs … for our family, we need something that is easily accessible and requires minimal maintenance and these drawers are the perfect solution.

“It’s not quite perfect yet … there’s a few systems for different areas of our lives that I want to implement … but for now it’s meeting our needs,” she wrote about her office makeover.

The walk-in cupboard is divided into nine different categories from celebration decorations, memory boxes (for each family member), photos and photo books and files and documents – with each container also individually labelled.

“I made the labels – they are just laminated print outs attached with velcro dots,” the mum said.

A video showing off her savvy new office has been viewed almost 2000 times, with the affordable makeover inspiring others.

“An actual dream,” one person commented.

“Oh my gosh this is amazing!! I’m so jealous!!” added another.

“I will literally pay you to come do this to my house,” a third person wrote, while a fourth said, “Something like this could work for my sewing room.”

Part of The Reject Shop’s success so far comes down to its incredibly loyal customer base, with many of the 1.1 million shoppers served per week being regulars.

It is also in the middle of a drastic overhaul, with executives hoping it will soon take on retail heavyweights like Aldi and Kmart.

Last month, investment banking heavyweight Morgan Stanley predicted The Reject Shop could become a $3 billion stock within the next decade.

“Nobody is really playing in the segment – there are heaps and heaps of mid-market brands like Coles, Woolworths and Myer and even online players like Catch and Amazon, but their prices are a little higher and nobody is really doing what we’re doing,” the company’s new CEO Andre Reich told news.com.au.

It has also launched a new website which will allow customers to eventually shop online, along with a ramped up social media presence and redesigned physical stores, making them cleaner with better price co-ordination.
