Mum brutally roasted after sharing Kmart fridge organisation ‘hack’

A mum’s excitement about her freshly organised fridge was quickly destroyed when people took issue with one glaring problem.

Woman’s ‘incredible’ Kmart hack

A mum who proudly gloated about her Kmart fridge “hack” has ended up on the receiving end of nasty backlash over an obvious organisation flaw.

The woman took to Facebook over the weekend to show off her “$6 fridge hack”, which involved laying six $1 Kmart tea towels beneath items on each shelf.

Her spirits were almost immediately dampened however when fellow Kmart shoppers pointed out a glaring problem with how she had organised her food.

Several plastic packages containing fresh meat had been placed on the top shelf – and more than 200 people rushed to inform her of the offence.

Storing meat up the top supposedly puts lower fridge items at risk of being contaminated with blood and bacteria, should the meat packages leak.

“Raw meat should always be on the bottom shelf,” one person wrote in a comment.

“Doesn’t matter if the shelf is glass, plastic, or even wooden. Bacteria can easily seep/leak down and contaminate other food items,” another said.

“Is it normal to not put meat on the bottom shelf? I’ve always done that in case it leaks blood everywhere,” someone else wrote.

A woman who claimed she had a lengthy history working in commercial kitchens affirmed that typically, meat would take a bottom position in the fridge.

“Yes raw meat is usually at the bottom for this reason and cross-contamination but I had never heard about it until I started working,” she wrote.

Others argued against the presumption it was unsafe to place raw meat on higher shelves.

“When you have glass shelves, there is no risk of a leak. But I’ve always put meat on the bottom just because,” one wrote.

Someone else argued it was imperative that chicken in particular was placed down the bottom.

“Chicken is at the very, very bottom. Those packs of meat look pretty safe from leaking though,” they said.

While dozens got swept up in the raw meat debate, others were annoyed it had taken attention away from the mum’s tea towel hack.

“Seriously ladies, it’s about the beautiful tea towels she is using. All these Gordon Ramsays lecturing her on where her meat and eggs should go is bloody ridiculous,” one commented.

She added it was the original poster’s fridge, and she could therefore organise it however she liked.

“Yeah, I’m over all the commenters making judgments in Facebook groups thinking they should ‘educate’ people. Like really, who do they think they are?” another comment read.

“Exactly, and they just don’t realise what damage they can do to a person’s self esteem,” a third wrote.
