Kmart walk-in wardrobe transformation stuns Facebook

Leanne Fletcher had always wanted a giant wardrobe – so her fiance built her one using budget items found in the aisles of Kmart.

5 game-changing Kmart hacks

For years Leanne Fletcher had always wanted a glamorous walk-in wardrobe like the ones she saw on TV.

But with the astronomical cost of getting it done professionally, the wardrobe seemed like it might be only a dream.

That was until Ms Fletcher’s fiance Dan Bromley decided to build her a walk-in wardrobe, transforming their Perth home’s spare room using items from Ikea, Kmart and eBay.

Ms Fletcher shared the stunning result of her fiance’s hard work on Facebook, with her post soon racking up hundreds of comments from other women who couldn’t believe the transformation.

Ms Fletcher told news.com.au her fiance had decided to build her the wardrobe after they got a quote to get it done professionally and realised they could do it much cheaper themselves.

“It cost around $4000 in total which is miles cheaper than what we got quoted by a professional carpentry company,” she said.

“The marble on the centre piece is real Carrara marble, that was $700 alone which pushed up the total price.”

The luxe space took Mr Bromley, a professional painter, four days to complete and includes a dresser table complete with lights mirror, Ikea Billy bookcases to showcase her bags and shoes, a mirrored Ikea Pax wardrobe and a chic velvet bench from Kmart.

“I have been collecting designer shoes and bags for a few years now, but the end goal was to have a walk in glamorous dressing room,” Ms Fletcher said.

“I was inspired by the British TV show The Real Housewives of Cheshire.”

One of the wardrobe’s standout pieces, a marble topped island, only cost a fraction of what the couple were quoted to have it done professionally.

“For the centre island unit, I got quoted $2000 from a carpentry company. We used two sets of the Ikea Malm drawers ($149 each) placed them back to back,” Ms Fletcher said.

“My fiance bought some melamine wood from Bunnings ($50) and cut to size to create the cubes in the middle and then fixed crystal handles to the fronts, they were also from Bunnings ($50) so the whole thing cost us $400 in total.”

Since sharing photos of the reno job online, Ms Fletcher said she’s been overwhelmed by the reaction from other women.

“I wasn’t expecting such an amazing response from the Facebook page,” she said. “I guess it’s most girl’s dream and they can relate to being shoes, bags or clothes lovers.”

Comments on the post praised the walk-in wardrobe as “stunning” and a “dream”, while many expressed their disbelief that Ms Fletcher’s fiance had managed to create it all using mostly Ikea and Kmart products.

“I have never felt so jealous in my life,” one person wrote, while another added: “You need to marry that man right now! Lock him down!”

“My man can’t even build flat packs and you got a whole ass walk-in wardrobe,” one person commented.
