Ikea Byredo collaboration: Designer candles on sale for just $9

The Swedish giant is selling a “super limited” cult homeware item that normally costs up to $110 for just a fraction of that price.

Even if you haven’t heard of fragrance brand Byredo, chances are you’ve seen their cult products on Instagram.

Their Gypsy Water perfume is a favourite of celebrities, while the Swedish brand’s minimalist candles are beloved by influencers.

Despite their popularity, Byredo isn’t cheap – its candles can cost up to $110 while a bottle of perfume can set you back as much as $435. Yikes.

Fortunately there is another option, with Ikea launching a candle collaboration with the luxury fragrance house’s creator Ben Gorham.

The discount homewares chain is now selling a range of candles named Osnylig which start at just $9 in 12 different scents and, according to one Byredo fan, definitely live up to the hype.

TikTok user @adrianwidjy shared how he was able to get his hands on the “unbelievably cheap” and “super limited” candles at Sydney’s Tempe store.

In a video that’s been viewed more than 17,000 times, Adrian said he “went a little crazy as they are hella affordable” and bought six of the candles.

He gave the candles the tick of approval for smelling “so good”, joking that he would be “keeping them in a locked cabinet”.

The candles come in three different sizes – a $9 small, a $19 medium and a large version with three wicks for $49 – and come in chic ceramic containers that can be reused as cups or jars afterwards.

Other Byredo fans were also keen to get their hands on the candles, tagging friends and saying they “need to go” as soon as possible.

“So cool,” one person wrote, while another added: “They look beautiful.”

Ikea creative leader James Futcher said the collection was designed so customers could mix and match the different candles.

“We hope people might buy two or three of the candles and light them together at the same time to make their own personal scent,” Mr Futcher said in a statement.

“We made 13 that work on their own but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t mix and match them if that creates a good feeling for you.”

Mr Futcher also said it had been exciting for Ikea to make a luxury product for less with Byredo’s creative director Mr Gorham.

“The things he makes are very high-end so it was also appealing to be able to take his knowledge and apply it at scale in a way that democratises it,” Mr Futcher said.

The candles are currently available in all Ikea stores across Australia except Rhodes, which will have them from next week – however customers should get in quick as stock is extremely limited.
